Contract or death trap?

Yeah, I just got the contract for the new kiddie book I'm doing with the lady in the states. I am REALLY put off, and I'm really not liking this -at- ALL. The contract gives me no right whatsoever to my artwork and there are no restrictions to how much this "company" uses them. I'm beginning to think I might need a lawyer! This is nuts! It probably wouldn't hurt to have a lawyer look it over, but that also sounds like a fairly standard contract (usually they want rights so they can reproduce your art for advertising and merchandising and whatnot). Keep in mind, also, that just because a contract has been sent to you doesn't necessarily mean you can't negotiate.

What the others said, but it never hurts to have someone check. Possibly also ask people with experience in this.

I'm actually pretty sure that's how it works most of the time. I know there are some sites out there on artistic rights and such, you might want to google them , or better yet go to the AIIQ website (aiiq.qc.ca) I think they have an FAQ on that kind of thing.
