I didn't like hearing that BC was Khan either; it threw me right out of the film, and seemed disrespectful to Ricardo Montalban. All the stunts left me yawning. The death scene with the tears annoyed me - I didn't feel they'd earned it, after all, this Jim and Spock don't have 79 episodes of TV behind them; they hardly know each other. I felt the plot was just thrown together from elements they thought people wanted; basically two old film plots recycled and smooshed together. I liked a few of the character interactions, but that was about all. Disappointed. And where was Mickey?
Noel Clarke was the Starfleet officer with the sick little girl who blew up the first building/HQ. Very little dialogue (I keep thinking none at all for some reason) but he acted the hell out of his role.
This is not a movie for fans they said and then they threw random TOS references at the screen for two hours. *rolls eyes*
Was anyone but JJ saying that? Because I do wonder if JJ ever actually saw the original series movies.
That said I loved a good many things about the movie, I just think it could have been so much better.
Yeah, it definitely was not as good as it could have been. I felt similarly about IM2 & then 3 was quite a bit better, so I've got hopes that things will improve in the future. The cast for the Enterprise crew is so good that I'm definitely not giving up the series. Wish we'd get a different director, though.
I liked it more than I didn't but I see so much negativity around fandom - taking out the understandable feelings it still feels excessive.
I liked Carol a lot.
Yeah, I heard so much about the gratuitous underwear scene before I saw the movie but not a lot of talk about how Carol's character was actually really awesome, sympathetic, moral, and intelligent. It sucks that she got saddled with the film's voyeur moment and, yeah, I hope that the next movie doesn't have one of those, but her character was pretty good and I hope she gets to come back in the next movie.
This movie made me adore Scotty even more.
Oh, yes! He was great.
I had totally forgotten about Noel, but I squeed (quietly) in the theatre when I saw him :)

The Khan thing really is the worst thing about the movie. I don't know what they were thinking.
