In Image Ready, the last tab in the picture window says "4 Up" or something, and you can adjust the dither and number of colors and stuff to get the smallest size with good quality. I just reduced the numbers of colors to 64 or 128 (I can't remeber) because it was already in grayscale, and it was right under 40K.
