khrfest He woke up with a jolt, cold sweat trickling down his forehead in silent tracks. Tsuna felt like he was choking in his sleep even when the bed was wide and soft and free from all kind of threats. Telling himself to calm down, he brought his palm to his face to wipe the cold sweat off but ended up staring at his own hand for a long time.
His hand was clean; there was nothing to taint the white skin, yet Tsuna saw blood running down the tip of his fingers to his elbow. His eyes widened, but he didn’t move an inch. He’s been seeing the same thing every night.
Every single night since the day of his first kill.
Tsuna’s first kill was not a glorious one. The man at the other end of his polished gun was a traitor who tried to sell the Vongola out to rival families, resulting in the death of ten subordinates. While Tsuna was a forgiving person, what the man did was unforgivable. Still, the weight of taking someone’s life regardless of how guilty the person was, haunted Tsuna like an attached spirit. It turned all his dreams into nightmares and molded his nightmares into realistic dreams.
He smiled less these days, talking only when it was really necessary. His Guardians were all worried. All of them, even Hibari even if it was only because he hated to see traces of weakness on someone he was supposed to serve under.
He heard a knock on the door before it creaked open silently. Gokudera bowed and made his way to Tsuna’s bed, offering him a glass of plain water. There was already a jug of water and an empty glass on the left nightstand, but Tsuna knew the one Gokudera brought was special.
There wasn’t any medicine inside, no. It was only a glass of water brought by someone who was concerned, filled to the brim with the love of a friend and a loyal subordinate. Tsuna knew Gokudera was losing sleep over Tsuna’s nightmares. He knew Gokudera was there every night when he woke up with a silent scream because every night, Gokudera would knock and come in with a glass of water. Sometimes, it was chamomile tea that would sooth Tsuna back to sleep. Sometimes, Tsuna saw another shadow by the door, a tall shadow Tsuna knew was no one else but Yamamoto.
Tsuna smiled as his lips touched the rim of the glass. Everyone was so worried. Even Reborn was being kinder than usual to him. He wondered if they realised they were the one who were changing more than he was.
This must stop.
If they were going to change, Tsuna will make sure they would be good changes. He loved his family too much to see them fall.
Be strong, self.
Reborn! Be a strong person as if I were about to die, with my dying will!
“Gokudera-kun.”
“Yes, Juudaime?”
“How about we all go for a picnic tomorrow? Let’s call Hibari-san too.”
The change in Gokudera’s expression was priceless. It was like seeing a dark room being lit by long-awaited sunlight, and it took was Tsuna’s smile.
There would be a lot more life he’d have to take to keep his family safe and Tsuna would keep changing. There was one thing Tsuna swore to bring back and guard with his dying will.
His family’s smile and laughter.
