My parents took our cat, Callie, to the vet today. She has a huge tumor. She's hasn't eaten for the past week, so that's why they took her. They have to put her down tomorrow.
My cat had to be put to sleep back in my senior year of high school due to liver failure (it was something about there was a particular kind of flower in our Thanksgiving centerpiece that he apparently ate that did it). We tried to keep him going with saline injections to see if things were going to work out, but he really only kept getting worse and worse. So after about four months, we finally just put him down. You could just see how badly he was hurting in those final days, and we knew that putting him down was really the only option.
Trust me- it's a lot better that you did it sooner than later. Waiting only makes it that much worse. :(
