The wedding planner

Mar 15, 2006 17:58

It's been 2 months since J said "yes" and what a surreal 2 months it has been planning for the wedding which, incidentally, is more than a year away! J's all psyched up and excited of coz (which is really great!), but methinks she's way ahead of the gorilla right now! For one, she seems to instinctively know so much about weddings that it's kinda ( Read more... )

Ahh wedding plans can be fun/a hassle for sure! this post is pretty much what's going on with my brother and his now fiance. They're planning to get married next October, and of course my soon to be sis in law and her family have been going crazy with where to have the ceremony and reception. I'm excited for them both though..and you and J too!! :D They already have 150 guests and that's just family!! I think they'll invite the rest of the people just for the reception, which is of course the best part of any wedding! Its good that you're planning it now though cuz a year goes by sooo fast!!

Right now, it's 2-1 in favour of being a hassle! Hahaha! Man, do you have elaborate weddings in Canada too? 150 just for family sounds quite a bit ... erm, that's for both sides of the family right?

I'm not sure if you've ever attended a Chinese wedding dinner. We're talking more than 25-30 tables (of 10 pax each)easily ... so that's like 250-300 guests already! And then there's the 10-course meal, and all the "traditional" stuff that the couple has to do like going round to every table for toasts (and you wonder why the groom is usually pissed drunk by the end of the night)! LOL! There's also usually a tea ceremony prior to the wedding dinner where the couple has to serve tea to all their elders from both sides of the family ... one elder (or couple, if the elder is married) at a time! Man, I could go on with the practices that make up a chinese wedding ... heh, but I think I'll save that for future posts. ;)

I know some of my cousins had elaborate weddings. I didn't attend most of them but the one I did attend last january was really nice. They chose this really nice old church, that sorta looked like a stone cottage from the outside. Everything inside was beautifully decorated. The one classy thing I liked was they had servers walking around with trays of sushi and champagne! I've never seen that at any of the weddings I've attended,so I thought it was kinda cool.Yes the 150 guests is from both sides of the family, thankfully :p

No I've never attended a chinese wedding dinner, but I'd like to someday. I have however attended two vietnamese wedding dinners. I'm assuming the way the meals are served is pretty much the same(ie: 10 course meal and stuff) There was lots of karaoke,we had our picture taken with the bride and groom under an arch of balloons. I can't remember if they went to every table but it was a nice dinner. The wedding ceremony was of course different but it was very sweet. Ok! looking forward to more future posts on this!

Sushi and champagne ... now that's unique alright, and served in a stone cottage looking church at that! :) 150 is quite a lot for family coz if you add in friends and colleagues, it'll probably bump up the number to 200 or more ( ... )

haha.....u mean u dun noe how its like fighting a battle when it comes to wedding?

hah.....that's the truth for ya - its never about the 2 of you for the wedding, its about your family and relatives and friends yada yada.....

Since you like outdoor and still have to do traditional chinese dinner.....how about Rasa Sentosa? You can have the solemisation on the pool side (and maybe you 2 like to be in gorilla outfits *chuckles*), then the guests can adjourn to the ballroom for dinner later. Not bad but likely to burst your pocket, unless its pretty deep down there.

Erm, never been married before mah. Hahaha!

Tell me about it! There's seems to be so much "face value" at stake for our folks it's really amusing sometimes ... sometimes only hor! *rolls eyes*

We've thought about Rasa Sentosa too, but as e_rambler pointed out below, an outdoor wedding is pretty weather-dependent, so it'll probably be a no-go I suspect lah. A bit risky given Singapore's unpredictable weather. And no, I don't have pretty deep pockets ... but I like to believe they're, erm, well packed though. *ego trip* Hahaha!

Vera Wang.. one of the big name designers in wedding gown fashion design.
custom or off the rack... depends on the size of your wallet.. shes a HUGE success story in her own right.. starting from wedding gowns and moving on to mainstream fashion as well... *pats the monkey on the back*
All i can say is... good friggin luck! :p

haha... wedding dinners? i say.. keep it short/simple/sweet/small... have better quality company/food/and kickass invitation cards... also a nice band would be good.. (but thats pushing it a little)

but hey... when you say I do.. means.. I do anything.... so.. all the best monkey boy! if you don't.. you might get your organ.. GROUND uif you know what i mean...

Wah, you do know your Vera Wangs! I'm impressed dude! Geez, I hadn't the foggiest idea who/what she/it was when gf mentioned the name. Oh well...

So Vera Wang is really that famous and *koff* expensive *koff* huh? I took a quick look at their website. I must say most of their gowns do appear more quite stunning and elegant. But what does a gorilla know about fashion lah. Then again, I do know what's sexaaay and what's not ... like that plunging neckline Vera Wang gown was HOT!!! Aiyah, J's a sensible gal. I don't think she'll eventually wanna splurge on a Vera Wang lah. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, I agree! Keep things simple, fun, cosy and provide kick-ass food, music and, of coz, wedding invitations. I like the idea of a band actually, but can't decide what kinda band. Jazz maybe? Definitely no heavy metal, head banging stuff that's for sure. If there's any banging to be done, leave it monkey boy! Hahaha!

It'll be real tragic if the organ gets ground ... or grounded hor! Choy! Choy! *sprinkles salt over back* LOL!

Yah, I know what you mean by something swingy and lively ... erm, not the "Summertime" variety for sure. :)

Heh, I think she has the goods ... I'm just not sure I want my dickhead buddies and male cousins leering at her assets! Brudder, ONE Vera Wang will set us back majorly hor! Heh, I think we'll rather channel the spare funds into something else lah ... like a really cool band for example? LOL!

oh.. there's this old joke... a kid asked mommy: why's the bride dressed in white?
mommy says " cuz thats the best colour of the happiest day of her life"

kid says " ohhhh.... ok.... so... why's the groom dressed in black?"

*Dong cheng!*
actually, a nice white summer would look pretty fetching for the groom.... but whatever your bride says.. is better... less dangerous.

Muahahahaha!!! Erm, the groom's sold his soul to the Dark Side? :)

White summer? Brudder, is that like white or not? What's a white summer? Speak gorilla lingo lah. Erm, I'll look very stark in white methinks coz I'm kinda dark-skinned. I swim and play outdoor sports a lot lah ... and I must qualify that that's "outdoor" sports hor. Hahaha!

The thing that really makes everything worthwhile are those moments that simply take my breath away ... like every time I lay eyes on J in a bridal gown.

Oh you'll be breathless by the time the whole preps are done! She will don many many many gowns till she finds the perfect one! hehe

Yah I agree the whole dinner humdum is to please the folks, and well like my hubby says it's once in your lifetime so just let them have what they want.

But for the same reason, just wanted people to laugh at how stupid it sounded cos' I was damn sian.
