The Batcave is dead. Long live the Batcave.

The move went incredibly well. Having developed a sincere dislike of moving many years ago, the thought of having to schlep over two bedrooms worth of stuff along with the Batcave and SCA gear was modestly revolting. Hiring movers made the entire endeavor exponentially more bearable ( Read more... )

i have used professional movers the last three times i moved. well worth the cost to not have the aggravation of worrying whether something will be broken by a friend; having the truck loaded and unloaded speedily in a single trip; and not having to coerce people with beer and pizza while hoping enough show up.

It occurred to me that as most of my friends are in their late 30's and have all moved a few times each that none of them was going to be crushed they didn't get to help us move. I did buy a small case of bottled water for the movers, who seemed to appreciate it. Even with the $20 cash tip I gave each of the four, the total cost came out to be well below what their maximum cost estimate was.

Which is great because now I'm spending far too much time looking at a new TV and either a Blu-Ray player or PS3...

Oh yeah, i definitely provided water and gatorade for the mover's each time. i consider that a common courtesy that is appreciated. when i moved out of burbank it was miserable hot, so i opted to have the refrigerator picked up by the buyer after the movers had left in order to keep everything cool.

i am glad that the cost came in less than estimated. bonus!!!

Indeed. The difference in what I saved helped make the trip to Target more bearable. There was a lot of household stuff I didn't have, and it really adds up. $400!

Miro getting married is costing me a bit of scratch...

one of the reasons i am looking for a ground floor place is that i don't want to annoy the neighbours with my early morning workouts!

funnily enough i have gotten offers to help me move, but i am planning on hiring movers, i much prefer having professionals lugging the heavy furniture around!

I wanted a downstairs place because it will make packing for SCA weekends considerably easier. The only other time I was in an upstairs apartment since I've been fighting was one that had a separate garage. The thought of having to lug my camping and fighting gear up and down stairs several times a year was not appealing.

It also seemed like a good idea considering I've lived in a house for eight years and didn't have to worry about annoying downstairs neighbors with my random stomping about.
