So, things going on. Stuff, stuff and more stuff...so be ready to be
...flooded with pictures and links.
First off, sadly both of the amphibians I stole from school last minute didn't make it. This house kills everything and sucks out its soul. I mean...the house is too hot and...well our water quality... 'enough said. Both tadpoles made it to frogs, though one died soon after that. The other was a happy tiny little frog for several weeks and it was fun watching it grow and have it climb onto and cling to my finger.
(tadpoles 1 and 2 as frogs)
Speaking of clinging to fingers, with the original pond water also came snails, some of which got pretty big. With the frogs gone, I decided I might as well try to transplant them to the goldfish tank knowing they would inevitably get eaten by my huge-ass 2- and 3-year old fish.
(Magic, the Sarcastic Fish (a.k.a. Magic) is the larger splotchy orange fish. He's bigger than my hand and a carnie fish that's over 3 years old. The white fish is Psych, and he's 2 years old.)
Have you ever had a snail chew on your fingertip? It tickles, and is also possibly one of the weirdest things you'll ever feel.
Then boat motor. I has it. Thank you Kelsey sooo very much for that link to Buster's Marine; it ended up being just the right and cheapest place. The motor was in our hallway and I spent Sunday on my sidewalk getting sunburned and wielding a hotglue gun to construct a box to ship it in (I knew Joe was teaching us life skills with that project in Sculpture). Making the box was necessary as it's big and was only encased in styrofoam, not the best way to ship it. But speaking of shipping, we finally did! I bought the motor on June 23rd... Anyway, we used
these Polish guys my upstairs neighbors (who are Polish, and moved away to Binghampton last weekend) recommended to us. It will be shipped by boat and take quite a few weeks, but turns out my grandfather is not in a rush to get the motor.
So that leaves...my plane ticket. It is done, JFK to Vienna (thank you
kayak,
RyanAir,
airfare and especially
vayama)...take that bitches. I'm getting the fuck out of this country Thursday night, and arriving in my homeland on Friday. Perfect timing it turns out, as my grandmother's siblings were planning to visit, and my youngest cousin will be spending a week there while my aunt and uncle go on vacation. Also, the peaches are ripe and falling off the trees...so they need people to gather them so my grandmother can make marmalade. My grandfather has promised to teach me how to handle a manual car, for the sake of both his car and his tractor.
In other news, while I've been at home and bored and desperately looking for reasons to not be in my house, a friend reminded me that one of the new bands from the Bronx was having a free concert...and since then I've gone back to stalking all the local bands I love. In fact, I've fallen in love with my "scene" all over again.
The Bronx Underground is as awesome as it ever was, although I feel like the only old fuck there (well, in the audience). Guess I can't blame it for being full of high school kids, hell that's how and when I found out about it. Ah, high school in the Bronx...the Bronx is still like my second home. So yeah, stalking bands, it's quite fun. Check out the BxUg bands; here are my favorites;
If But When (Sean Donovan's voice is like a siren's song...),
A Moment's Worth (lead singer makes fun of his Russian accent) and
Daly's Gone Wrong (hXc muthafuckas!), and a bunch more (
Athena's Fury,
Idle Minds...). They all rock hardcore, yo.
In fact, I've been hanging out A LOT in the Bronx, from concerts to visiting Stacey as she was taking summer classes at Fordham. If any of you have seen 'The Happening', I went to see it with her at Lincoln Center...which funnily enough IS 3 blocks from Central Park. So yeah. Not that I haven't been doing stuff in Queens; I managed to get really badly sunburned at Rock-rock-rock-a-Rockaway Beach 4 weeks ago...
(he washed up on the shore while we were there)
and was peeling for a while. I also progressively learned to kick ass as a Wii Rock Band drummer. I've also been doing website stuff for
Night Terrorz, a clothing company that does all original art stuff, and that I'm personally involved in since I know the people who own it. Check it out.
Bloodlust is a really cool shirt, and the
military cap looks good on...um...everyone? Yeah.
So, apologies for the...well unaccustomed entry and the blatant advertising.
P.S. Wall-e is the best and cutest movie ever. I saw it the weekend it came out. Pixar AND robots? SO MUCH YES. All I can hope to do is work for these people someday. Even if it means selling my soul to Disney.
P.P.S. Want something from the Czech Republic? Give me an address and I'll send you a postcard at the very least.
