Not that you particularly care about my opinion... but I'd say try #1 out for awhile and see if you enjoy that. If you find that you really enjoy the personal-record aspect of blogging, then move to #3.
I don't think I'd really expect you to go on about the daily goings on at your job, but for what it's worth making my whole journal friends-only has actually worked wonders. It hasn't really changed much (I don't usually talk about my job because, well, it's kinda boring), but I've actually found it easier to update that way. It just allows you to feel a little more uninhibited, I guess.
Don't trust anybody. Someone will eventually sell you out. Don't put in here what you wouldn't mind seeing in print. I can say anything I want, because everybody who knows me knows that I'm abrasive at times, and they are used to it. You, on the other hand, need to keep face with employers and your reading public.
I agree with Jon. Option #1. Make it your own personal opinion page. Who knows, maybe someday it'll become your own version of RandBall (check the strib website for further explanation).
