Bandwidth D-Day

Oct 20, 2003 16:59

I just wrote DIU's bandwidth provider and told them to shut off the stream, as I can't affford to pay them any more.

I'm working on a couple options and hope to have something lined up later today.

This only effects the 96k stream. The modem stream is hosted off my server.

You're a bad, bad person, Ed. That does look yummy though. I think I need to eat soon.

But if you insist...

How many streams were you running on 96K? Because, if the number isn't too high, I may be able to help you out with a temporary fix until you get the money for it again...

It's currently a 20 user relay. How much b/w do you have available? Bear in mind shoutcast has a 10-15% protocol overhead.

OK, I can do about 12 users through my off-site server. Would that be enough to squeak on by until a more permanent solution is found [again]?

I've had a couple people offer to run something, so I'll keep you in reserve for now. But thanks :)

Nothing in internet radio is permanent. You basically find a sucker bandwidth donor and run the stream till they realize how much bandwidth it's using and they shut you down.
