More on Necto

Jan 24, 2005 06:23

Since the last post, I went back a bit and caught pulse_state's post about what happened at Necto last Monday here. As long as its public knowledge, I feel free to talk about it here.

Looks to me that Pulse State was told that he was playing on the 24th a week in advance. And die_puny_human announced it on his LJ on Friday. I happened to see this last entry late Saturday ( Read more... )

You'll also note that I was concerned about your spot as well! I made mention of this (don't remember if it was on Jinx's or Pulse State's LJ), but got a vague reply. Don't know what to tell you except that DJing is all business as far as the clubs are concerned. I can somewhat understand this because as a wedding DJ, I treat everything as business. Just because I like to DJ industrial/sythpop/whatever shouldn't change the clients opinion of whether its bussiness or not. Theres a lot to consider. I don't agree with them not telling you what was going on. I think that Mike's spot should have been moved to the end of the cue, but I didn't make that call. I'm glad they didn't shift everyone back a week as that would have been chaos and confusion to the max. Not to mention that Copper Top is coming in from out of town. I'm sure this only adds to your feelings about things lately. Don't feel too bad about it... I haven't been really into myself lately either.

Thanks. Yeah if it was my call, moving Mike to the next open spot would have been a simple solution. I definitely wouldn't want to see Copper Top bumped for me or anyone else. If its a matter of Mike being more popular in the local scene (and I'm not disputing that) then I shouldn't have been booked in the first place. I wouldn't have bothered to write this post if I felt that Dan understood just how unprofessional and rude not telling me was.

Oh well, as I said a couple weeks ago, I'm going to focus on DIU and cut way back on being involved with the club scene. I find I'm much happier and more creative/productive when I don't pay too much attention to what everyone else is doing.

Sorry about the scheduling mix up and how things went down. Not to cool, but I've had it happen to me as well at clubs. I've had unannounced 'opening' dj's' spinning when I got there to my surprise. I've had my scheduled times pushed back or cut entirely. I've been told to go on earlier then expected. At Infest my first set was supposed to be over an hour and it was like 40 minutes. (Second set rectified that by being extended however ( ... )

You're making this sound like it's partially my fault for taking the spot tonight. However, it was all that was offered me so I took it.

Actually that wasn't my intent, I don't know see where you read that into it. You do raise an interesting point though.

I don't know if you knew about my being scheduled for the 24th or not, but I personally wouldn't bump a friend from a gig without at least discussing it with him. That however, is my ideal and I'm very aware that most people have a different perspective on these things.

He even said he has an excel spreadsheet to sort all of this out.

In anycase yeah things do happen, so what if it gets pushed back a bit. I'm just hoping I'm still on the third week of August.

This wasn't a mistake or someone forgetting something. It was a matter of Dan deciding he'd rather have Mike play and then neither one having the basic courtesy or guts to tell me about it.

That might be true, but I was hoping for the best.

I wonder if they read my review of you at Mephisto's. You did do lots of good club tracks after I asked you to play them. I also hope that you can come guest DJ agian sometime soon since I don't really have anyone beating down the door to DJ. Wednesday might be better cause that way you can play what you want, not what the people want.
