✯ Sixth Session ✯ [Accidental Written?] Dated to Wednesday Afternoon

Mar 02, 2011 02:54

[During the afternoon, if one is to catch the journal feed they may notice what looks like a black splotch on the feed. If one looks long enough, they will notice that this splotch is growing slowly. Eventually it starts taking on this form:]

[How odd.] Are we supposed to guess what sort of illustration this is?

Is it perhaps a Coleopterid? Not enough detail to specify what family, but...

[Wait a moment.] ... For what reason would you be doing something like this, anyway?

[...Guessing an image? She looks down at the journal and notices the inkblot. Huh. She definitely didn't draw that. Coleopterid? That was a...bug of some kind? Never was good at memorizing classifications.

She replies, explaining that she didn't make the inkblot. Once she finishes explaining, without realizing he can't hear her speak, another inkblot is formed.]

[Okay, this is mildly frustrating to Robert. Since he can't tell that the person on the other end isn't doing this just to annoy him...]

Is there some reason that you are not answering me? Although... this particular image reminds me of an Asteroidean... I cannot think of many sea stars with only four limbs, however.

[It then occurs to Robert that perhaps zie cannot speak. So after a moment, he writes in his neat, professional script...]

Would it perhaps be more feasible for us to communicate with text if you find speaking aloud difficult?

[But she was answering, wasn't she?

She begins to write that she didn't make the inkblots. But, as soon as she finishes, her words quickly mash up into each other and another inkblot is formed as a result. The actual process of them crashing into each other on the page can be seen if Robert doesn't blink while it happens.]

[... Yes, Robert saw that. He was observant enough to notice that, just for a moment, there were words on that page - and then somehow they coalesced into some random ink blot that is making him think of some sort of strange cerebral scan. Or an equine face directly head-on.]

... Was... that deliberate? [Because that was done so quickly he hadn't had time to read the text. The fact this is happening at all is taking precedence over the drawings' appearance.]

[She slowly shakes her head, knowing well at this point that speaking is pointless.]

Well. [Robert can't say he's seen this happen on the journals before.] This is... certainly strange. And it is thoroughly impeding our ability to communicate.

It is a pity that you would be unlikely to know Terran Common Sign Language, else we might be able to circumvent this. [The mun doesn't know it well enough to write a conversation in it, either.] At any rate, we have not met before... I do not recognize you. But my name is Professor Robert Alexander Hastings. [He knows that the person won't be able to reply to this with zir own name, but it's worth stating his own regardless.]

Do you perhaps need assistance of any sort?

[And after a pause to allow a nod or shake of the head as affirmation or rejection...]

Or are you alright despite this... strange affliction on your communications?

[She shakes her head and gives a small thumbs up. Other than this annoying side effect, she doesn't feel too strange at the very least. Then, she takes her index and thumbs and puts them together, making an "M" shape with them.]

"M"? [Robert is mostly confused by that.] Forgive me; if it is a sign language sign, it is one that I am unfamiliar with. [As well as the mun.]

But it is reassuring that you are unharmed. Perhaps this is merely a glitch in the system? ... However, it could also be deliberately done, but for what purpose is inexplicable to me.

[She shakes her head, and tries to think of a way to get across her message.

...It then hits her and she puts up an index finger, ushering him to wait a moment hopefully. She moves off the feed and the sounds of scraping can be heard not too far away.

A minute later she returns to the journal and adjusts the camera to the forest ground, where she wrote out the word "MALNOSSO" with a wooden stick.]

[How ingenious. Robert's actually a little impressed. He switches back to voice so that the person on the other line can write without having to constantly peer into the journal.]

So the Malnosso are responsible for this debacle? That seems... predictable. And yet ridiculous. There seems to be no reason for this - not as if things being unreasoned ever stopped them before.

[She nods and takes the stick once more, writing out the words "KIDNAPPED" and "EXPERIMENTED".]

Again... seems about par for the course with these imbeciles. [Robert sighs a little.] They recently returned a friend of mine from a similar experiment, so it seems as if they are hungering for whatever strange results they crave once more.

Are you certain I cannot assist you somehow?

And may I perhaps have your name so as to allow us to speak in future when you are not so encumbered?

[She shakes her head. He wouldn't be able to see her most likely, so it's pointless to bother him.

But, she does take the stick again and writes "PAPRIKA" on the ground.]

[Paprika... that was the name of a spice, wasn't it? Robert allows a small smile despite the strangeness of the situation.] I certainly look forward to speaking to you when the journal system actually cooperates, Paprika. I trust it will be much less irritating than having to scrawl on the ground.

[She quickly writes a "THANKS" on the ground and then next to it "YOUR NAME?".]
