April is National Poetry Month. People have been posting their favorite poems, and I shall too. I'm not a fan of poetry normally, but I do like certain ones.

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I love that poem. It reminds me of another favorite, Invictus by Henley. Have you read that one?

I'm a big poetry fan and have many to choose from. I want to post mine up but it'll have to wait until after I finish dyeing eggs.

No, I've not heard of Invictus. You'll definitely have to post that one. I've never really "gotten" poetry. I like Shakespeare, and the random poem here and there, but it's just not something I identify with.

Funnily enough, I love poetry but I could never grow to like Shakespeare. Which I'm told everyone should love Shakespeare. :o/

And here's Invictus. Hope you don't mind my posting it here.

Invictus
William E. Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

And... I do know how to spell. >.> That's the way the poem was written. <3

I don't think we ever studied Dylan Thomas in school. Shakespeare's sonnets and plays, but not him. This is really good ... thanks for sharing it with us!

I've studied Shakespeare too, but not much other poetry. When I was in middle school, one class made us memorize and recite poems in front of class. I will admit to hating that part.
