Thought for the day: The Cats Really Do Hate Us

Rose and I went to Shoprite after work to buy more groceries, we managed to fill the fridge again in short order and seemed to have doubled up on some of the items: 4 quarts of OJ, 6 quarts of soy milk. This may or may not be helpful...it's a bit of math...

In the nutrition class I took at university, we learned that no more than 30% of calories should come from fat; 10-15% should come from lean protein; 55-60 should come from carbs.

So on a 1400-calorie diet, between 140 & 150 calories should come from protein. Protein has 4 calories per gram, so the target is between 35 and 37-ish protein grams.

Well that's the best information I have seen, all the other google searches just found health blogs where or health marketing websites trying to sell me something. None were particularly helpful.

only 1000 to 1400 calories a day?? you are starving yourself and will never lose weight at that rate!!! even with WW, and not taking into consideration your gender and age, you should be starting at 21-22 points! which is like minimum of 1100 calories! Men get 8 additional points or at least 400 more calories! I would aim for 1500 minimum boy!!!!! -Meg

Man, I gotta chime in here. 1000-1400 cal/day is way low based on what I've read. Sure it's common among the popular diets because it gets quick results. In less than two weeks you've dropped what, 14 pounds? Just try to keep the rate up there buddy. Not going to happen. Why do you think so many people fail their diets? Because they're not sustainable. There's a lot of consensus that it's not safe to loose more than 2 pounds per week. Loose more than that, and your body's starvation response kicks in. It keeps the fat and burns muscle. Want to loose fat? Identify a group that has a proven track record of loosing fat, then emulate them... and I'm not talking about Ethiopians! You want to keep the muscle!

Including fluids it actually turns out to be around 1800-2000 calories a day. Except when you forget lunch like I did today.
