Jinri pressed a palm against the cool metal gate separating the backyard of her home from the other side of town - out where everything was so free, so exhilarating, so... not the life she had to deal with.
It was nice having pretty and expensive things, but materialism could only get you so far. Money couldn't buy you happiness, or love or friends. Maybe your father could use it to find someone to stand by your side and look attractive at your coming of age party, but that didn't mean they really cared about you.
Jinri wasn't just sure, but certain, that she had never had a real friend. At least, she hadn't until she'd met Krystal.
She was bright and beautiful, like the moon cascading across her balcony just before midnight - that was the first time that she had spotted her, just before the clock struck twelve to welcome another day. Unlike all her past though, that next hadn't been as mundane. It'd taken a bit of courage - her hands gripped tightly around the railing of her balcony - as she yelled out to Krystal at the other side of the gate.
Jinri wasn't sure why she'd done it exactly, but regretting her decision had never really been an option.
She'd never felt anything remotely negative when around Krystal.
"Jinri!"
Krystal's voice rang clear around her as she appeared at from behind a row of large oak trees, smile plastered across her lips as she skipped in the direction of the gate, hands gripping around the metal. "You ready?"
Jinri raised an eyebrow. "Ready for what?"
"For me to sweep you off your feet, of course." Krystal grinned at her and Jinri's cheeks dusted a soft pink. "That's what's supposed to happen, right? I break you out of this hell hole and take you away to some far off magical kingdom where we live happily ever after... - with a dog or hamster or something."
Jinri let out a soft chuckle. "I guess that's how it usually goes, yes," she nodded. "What's with the sudden urge to get me out of here though, there's nothing really... wrong with the place."
"Maybe not, but there's nothing wrong with getting out a little either."
Nodding her head in agreement, a matching grin crossed Jinri's lips. "No lies detected there."
"Climb over the fence and go somewhere with me then."
Looking upward to examine the top half of the fence, Jinri tilted her head to the side, giving a shrug. "Okay," she answered back simply before moving a foot up onto the bottom of the fence. "If I rip this shirt though, you're letting me borrow one of yours."
She looked back at Krystal just in time to catch a waggle of her eyebrows. "You can just use me to cover up."
