[009] [voice/action] The Boy Is Diverting Himself

May 19, 2011 15:39

[Artemis has kept up radio silence since the latest experiment ended--nearly a month ago. Perhaps he was too embarrassed or simply humiliated that he had been made to forget his own family. However at least some good came from the experiment: he had been reminded of the various ways he used to pass the time when he was back home. And now that he ( Read more... )

[Hello there Artemis, someone else is wandering around one of the community housing buildings, too, but probably not for the same reason. Despite being strictly told not to go too far away from House 1, he wound up unintentionally ignoring that order while following a rabbit into the forest.]

[Sure, he made it back to the village all right, but now he isn't sure which way is home. He isn't too concerned yet, but he keeps glancing around as if trying to find some kind of landmark that could lead him home. He's still just a few days old after his mallynapping, although aside from his hair being a bit shorter, it's rather hard to tell.]

[Artemis is measuring a clearing he might consider for his new shop--but would he need a river running near it? Could he even build a power generator here?--when he spots Ion wandering around. Right... Artemis had never actually apologized for being so tsundere rough around the edges during the experiment. He retracts his tape measure and walks over to Ion while noting down the measurement.]

Ion-- hold on one second. [He finishes drawing the line to indicate where the measurement was taken, then looks up. Ion cut his hair, and Artemis has to resist the urge to point this out.] I realize we haven't spoken since the end of the experiment--and for that I apologize. I have been sorting things out since then. Personal loose ends. However, I wanted to make certain I didn't traumatize you or leave you with doubts or circular thoughts.

...how have you been?

[Ion turns upon hearing his name being called, but when he sees Artemis, he doesn't recognize who he is. Yet somehow he knows his name and he's talking to him like he knows him and... o-oh wait, he's talking. Maybe Ion should be paying attention.]

[The look on his face is one of mild confusion, but for the most part? He just looks really out-of-it. Even his words sound a bit more unsure than they usually do.]

Who... are you?

[Blink.] Excuse me?

['Who are you' is not a question Artemis Fowl II hears often. Because, obviously, he's Artemis Fowl II. However Artemis' shock comes less from hearing that question, and more from the fact that in a past fictional life, he and Ion dated. Everyone else remembered exactly what they had done during the experiment, except for Ion? Ridiculous.]

Ion, it's Artemis Fowl. [He snaps his fingers in front of Ion's face, checking for a reflex.] Are you awake?

What sort of 'projects' are you working on?

[Her voice has a robotic tinge that underlies every word. She's been working to stop it but, well. A Basic is still a Basic, even in the User world.]

[How odd. Her voice sounds almost... automated. Well-automated, but automated.]

Building objects, some painting and sketching. If I am to be trapped here, I intend to entertain and further myself.

It sounds to be noble.

What things do you build?

All manner of things, but I mostly like to work in electronics. Computers, gadgets, useful sorts of things.

There's probably a spare room somewhere in the barracks?

A mere room may not hold all of it for long. But it would be adequate until I had to commandeer another room.

But if a room can't fit it, would another room even work?

Well the idea would be to have two storage rooms. Though I would prefer an actual workshop, perhaps with room to expand.

[Hey... that voice sounds familiar...]

Ika-chan? Maybe we can build you one out by the lake! Underwater would be even better! An undersea lab for all of Ika-chan's top secret inventions!

[Oh. It's her again.]

I'm not a kraken anymore. And undersea lab would only serve to drown me.

[Oh! The voice is the same, but it's just a boy a few years younger than her instead of a squid! Maybe he got tired of being a squid all the time. Just like the little mermaid. But hopefully Ika-chan won't turn into sea-foam!]

Ah- that's too bad! I wouldn't want you to drown! But won't it be hard to work on your projects now that you only have two hands?

I had two hands to begin with, and they've always seemed to work just fine. I could barely walk with eight legs, I couldn't imagine operating a soldering iron with only tentacles to assist me.

...your workshop disappeared? How does that happen?

[voice] byname_bynature May 20 2011, 17:02:28 UTC
It technically was a electrical plant. Seeing how the power source here is more magical than electrical, I'm not terribly surprised that it vanished. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Wait, hold on. Your workshop was an electrical plant too? How does that work?

I kept the generators in one half of the room, and used the rest of the space at my own discretion. The generators were quite small, but efficient.
