Fashion and Introspection thereupon

This girl's corsets don't blow me away, but I WANT her velvet shrug! Would it be douchey to ask where she got it, without having interest in her own product? Especially considering she's in England, so it's probably not something easily attainable this side of the pond.

And your boss' statement was just, to use the vernacular, lamé.

I support the "not invisible"...you're a lovely girl, and you shouldn't be.

Regarding work, I don't see that there should be an issue with paring some funky in with the conservative. I sympathize with you quite a lot. I'm in very much the same position. I've never been 'goth' but it seems to be the easiest thing to adapt to a more 'corporate friendly' look.

I too have fallen into the trap of wearing far too much black. I find that doing things bit by bit accumulating things that you REALLY like and will wear often works best. Spend money on a few nice, good quality pieces that you can wear with a lot of things. Say for example a blazer/jacket that can be dressed up/down or accessorized to be a bit more "different".

Thankfully where I work has so far been pretty tolerant of my more bizarre outfits. I find that helps a lot too; if you're really fucking good at your job they're less likely to bother you about dress code infractions. ;)
