Pandora Parkinson stared at her face in the mirror, hands fixing hair that was already perfectly in place. This would be the first time she would be leaving the house in months; she was glad Pansy would be with her. Part of her knew it was unfair of her to lean on her daughter so. Pansy was hurting, too, and needed support as well. A tired smile flickered over the woman's face. Pansy was the reason she was going for tea. Maybe this would be a good beginning at moving on. Her head turned as she saw Pansy enter the room. Pansy looked a little tired as well, but mostly excited. Pandora smiled inwardly; yes, it was, indeed, time for a new beginning
( ... )
Narcissa broke into a smile as she saw her two guests. "It's wonderful to see you both," she said and came forward to clasp Pandora's hands. "I'm so glad you could come, Pandora. And Pansy--I let Draco know he's expected. If he doesn't come down in a decent amount of time, you have my permission to go upstairs and fetch him."
She prayed he would be dressed.
"Do come in and make yourselves comfotable," Narcissa invited. "How are your NEWT studies coming, Pansy?"
Pandora smiled at Narcissa, still a little hesitant, but more at ease seeing that the other woman was glad to see her. "I'm glad I came, too. It has been too long since we've seen each other." The dark-haired woman almost laughed at how Pansy seemed to brighten when Draco was mentioned, and she glanced at Narcissa to see if she had noticed it, too.
"I have the feeling I'll have to go fetch him," Pansy said, waiting for her elders to start towards the seats before taking one for her herself. "My studies are going decently. It's hard to concentrate sometimes."
"I found studying for NEWTs to be trial enough, and I had an entire year to prepare for them," Narcissa said. "Having to study for them while dealing with everything that happened at Hogwarts during the past year..." She shook her head. "I admire you all for your determination."
She stopped herself from saying anything further, lest she begin sounding trite. She heard swift footsteps coming from the hall and recognized them as Draco's. Narcissa turned her head to smile at her son as she saw him enter and paused, mid-smile.
He looked positively radiant--too radiant. Damn. I shouldn't have ordered him to come downstairs, she thought. But there was no help for it now. He was here, pissed-off smile and all, and she would simply have to deal with it.
