Broken leg

In technical terms, she has a complex, but nondisplaced, radiographically-occult Salter-Harris Type 3 fracture of her right tibeal plateau.  This is not a surgical lesion, but there is controversy about whether a cast or a brace is preferred.  The seemingly best-informed opinion I have gotten so far suggests that casts can be dangerous on airplanes ( Read more... )

"Air trapping," in which trapped regions of air expand in response to decreased air pressure, possibly impinging on the constrained tissues within the cast.
