Opposite day

So this last friday I did what I do every friday night. I sat down to a dnd-esque game session with ten other ultra-nerdy roll players. They're so nerdy that one of them actually invented the whole system we are using to play this particular game, and we're alpha testing it for him so that he can get all of the kinks out of the system to sell it ( Read more... )

Sounds like you have smart friends. LoTR remindedme of the Book of Numbers. So dull with all the soandso son of thatguy and grandson of thisguy. Awful.

well I'll admit reading the books was a bit like eating card board or reading anything by john steinbeck, but it's still a pretty cool collection of ideas. the movies were much better from the sit down and enjoy stand point. They were full of the epic adventure with big mountains and old men yelling "you shall not pass!" without the twenty page costume descriptions constant monologging.

I thought the movies were pretty much shit, too. Bad casting like whoa. But yes, the ideas, and the languages are very cool and we certainly wouldn't even have D&D without the influence of LoTR.
