The Sernas :: Minyga
A loose confederacy of families bound together by the magic webbing of father Acacio's blood. This strong bloodline brings out unique talents in each of the half-siblings, some are more or less spiritual depending on their relationship to their powers and to the soñando. The untainted retain their strong glitter, an overreaching awareness as well as other abilities, while some linger half-way between them and the true dreamchasers. Their relationship to one another is at times visceral, but very real despite the great amount of physical distance which divides up each of them. Some remain with their mothers, while others take to travel. Those living in the South only stay together out of necessity, a large grouping of bright green-eyed children and their soñando-eyed dreamchaser sisters would certainly be suspicious. There is no real cohesion among them, differing personalities and responsibilities, but the majority take solidarity in their heritage and love one another unconditionally.

The eldest daughter. Fela is the oldest of Acacio's children, daughter of the dreamchaser and tattoo artist Oro Delmas. Fela has followed down her father's path, taking up his legacy as dreamchaser, just like any good first born should. She loves the dreams that she wanders for their vibrancy and their beauty, and she finds these same beauties even in the waking world. She often has a preference for the surreal, but as she has acquired a family around her, her priorities have shifted to the care of her children. She is a very capable sort of woman who takes pleasure in caring and nurturing others, but has too much pride to really accept too much care of her own, even when she needs it. She accepts it from her little brother, Benito, but for Gauvain Crowe it is an upward battle to be allowed to show her any affection. The fact that he keeps trying has forced Fela to fall rather pathetically in love with him. A wonderful mother, a beautiful lover, a loving sister, and a selfless benefactor, she is very much her father's daughter, though her mother's temper has seen her get herself into trouble.

Fela's dreamchaser father. A kind spirit who drifts through the South as a member of the House of Masks. Fela has really only met with him once, but sometimes Benito comforts her drawing out old memories from the womb of his powers brushing over her lovingly. She cries every single time she sees him and is the biggest daddy's girl in the world.

Fela's mother, a very vibrant sort of woman, a bit wild and playful. She is always one for making the best of situation and will punch you if you try to rain on her parade. She is very sociable and strong, her pride is inspiring to others. She died when Fela was thirteen. If Fela was capable of remembering, this fact would break her heart because her mother was so full of life. Oro was madly in love with Acacio and very happy to be carrying his child, even if she always knew they would never make a family together.

Benito's mother. Like many of the South, Idoya has suffered at the hands of the Prents, but rather than despair, she took those lessons and made herself strong enough to protect her son.*
Dead

Estele's mother. An isolated hedge witch to a sister Fela has little contact with, there is not much for Fela to know.

The oldest son. Of all her siblings, Fela is closest with him and when she has the mind to, generally considers him to be her best friend. It was Benito who came to find her when she was pregnant and remained with her and Andros once he was born. A charming brat, she and Benito bicker lovingly.

Like Fela, Luz has taken the sonando and found the skills of the dreamchaser. Luz is a quiet and caring, and though she and Fela have never had to chance to spend time together, there is no question how much Fela would adore her little sister.

Impulsive, arrogant, loud and rude. Fela would love all of her siblings, but would probably have one of her more tumultuous relationships with Estele. Fela does not take rudeness or arrogance all that well.

The rich bitch who keeps Acacio. Rachel can, occasionally, be convinced to open her house to the rest of Acacio's children, considering most are polite she usually complies. She thinks Fela's kids are cute and likes being a grandma, watching them play with her own grandsons and spoiling them with gifts..

A fellow dreamchaser, upon meeting Acacio the two spent some time together. She never really intended to become pregnant, the high concentration of glitter and sonando with two dreamcahsers is not ideal for a child, but it is what it is. Whether Manuela was mad before the sonando got to her is unclear, but she is certainly mad now. Only her fellow dreamchasers are able to truly put her at peace.*
Dead

Rachel's eldest son, Christopher also has a strong relationship with Jast and under the augur's guidance and with the influence of his sister, Lucia, is perhaps one of the strongest of Acacio's children in terms of untainted glitter. This is both blessing and curse to him, as it has left him rather out of touch with the world around him, he means well and tries hard, but most of his relationships to others are strained. His rich family makes his eccentricity acceptable, rather than detrimental. It is through him that the Sernas cross with the Morrisons, Eden Morrison is the mother of his twin sons, Mattan and Havilah.

Manuela's son and arguably the black sheep of his siblings. Tiestre is a bitter, hateful young man who resents his glitter and actively hates both his mother and his father. He has a passing affection for his nieces and nephews, but the less contact he has with his siblings the better. He travels with his mother and keeps her safe enough, but he would no mourn her if she was killed.

The quintessential middle child, Handari is lost somewhere between his older siblings and the younger ones. After losing his mother in a Prevent sweep and unable to find her, he has delayed accepting that she is dead. He is devastatingly lonely and makes up for this fact by being the one member of the family to actively seek out the others on a regular basis. He would really give anything to have his family together, happy, and safe. Without any clear goal (or self-esteem) he has only recently latched on to a young priest for some kind of guidance before he well and truly succumbs to despair. Handari is really incredibly kind and gentle, but it gets lost under teenage awkwardness and uncertainty.

Once a House madame, she took Acacio on as one of her whores when he needed a place to stay. When she found herself pregnant with a dreamchaser baby, she took her sizable savings and wormed her way up North to start a new life. Business-savvy and no-nonsense, she's got a tough time with her rebellious daughter.

A Prevent soldier who bought Acacio for a night and was completely mortified by the glitter baby that resulted. She left it die in the streets. Florida doesn't really have any strong moral opinions regarding the witches and their supposed abomination, but she is a fascist bitch and she thinks might makes right and Prevent has the might. She thinks she's on the winning side and that's what matters most.

The sea gypsies are a strange folk with rules and laws all their own. Beatriz is no different, stern but caring, she has her hands full trying to comfort her daughter's glitter-fueled nightmares when she has no real glitter of her own.

Nyasha's daughter, Desiree was being tutored at one of the Northern temples in her powers until she turned 17 and just couldn't take any more of that shit. Struck hard with her father's wanderlust, and inspired by her own mother's strength, Desiree decided to strike out on her own. The North is nowhere near as dangerous as the war-torn South, but she's been enjoying the adventure. The world's too big a place to sit at home. Desiree is down to earth, a little saucy, but ultimately a good girl even if she could use a little more respect for authority.

Florida's abandoned child. He was rescued by the House of Masks and he still harbors a burning hatred for Prevent and the mother who abandoned him. He has taken up a mission of espionage in a high end brothel, siphoning information from Prevent clients, alongside his elder sisters Luz and Estele. Like Luz, if Fela were aware of the bloodlust that sometimes grips him, she would be there in a heartbeat to keep him from going to far.

Beatriz's daughter, Nerin has taken after her mother and her people very well, is bright and hard-working, although the nightmares that plague her sleep wear on her greatly. Any of her siblings that comes across her is sure to offer whatever power they can to give her an easy night's sleep while they can.

Dominique was eighteen when she began to travel with Acacio and his childhood friend, Desidero. They formed a very tight knit trio as both lovers and family, and when Desidero was killed and Acacio was lost somewhere, it was Dominique who bore the burden heaviest. Carrying Desidero's memories, it was her task to find Acacio to impart them. When she did find him after a very long time, she found the lack of Desidero there with them to be painful, and really wished to return home to her new lover. She and Acacio still said goodbye to the past, however, and the twins, Bowen and Asha, were the unintended result of that. Her children's glitter was very dangerous and unstable, and as soon as they were born Jast came and clipped them.

Is on here to make my chart even The lover that Dominique had to explain her pregnancy to. Jackie was terrified and heartbroken over the entire experience, but was coaxed back because she felt Dominique truly needed her, and because she's madly in love with her, duh, whatever. Despite all fussing to the contrary, Dominique's twins take after Jackie a very noticeable amount and they would consider her a mother if she just wouldn't be such a crazy bitch all the time. Jackie hates Acacio with a fiery passion, both for getting her girlfriend pregnant and from her own personal encounters with him.

Petronel, the naive daughter of a family of intellectuals. She went to the South to 'make a difference' and ended up getting stuck there. She took a night with Acacio looking for comfort in her despair, and ended up carrying some unexpected contraband home with her when she did finally make it across the border. Really not very able to take care of her glitter baby's glittery needs, and is essentially a co-parent alongside Jast.

Older twin by about like five seconds. Bowen is an irreverent, sarcastic little asshole who doesn't like to ask for help. He doesn't mind not having any powers, although it does make it kind of hard to get on with his family sometimes, especially Christopher and his father, which is something Bowen mourns deeply because he is just drowning in estrogen at home. He longs for some kind of positive male influence in life. Bruce Lee just isn't cutting it anymore. Bowen is very protective of his sister, has frequent arguments with Jackie, and wishes his mom would stop trying to over protect him to death.

Younger twin by like five seconds. Asha is equally irreverent and sarcastic and kind of an asshole. They learned that casually insulting people thing from Jackie. Asha's dynamic with her mother and Jackie is a little more actively combative due to her search for a place in the overall female hierarchy of the home (Bowen accepts he is on the bottom of it.) Is guilty of letting her over protective brother deal with her problems for her. Asha and Bowen are the most modern of their siblings and this can make talking to the others really kind of weird.

The baby bird. Mahalia is Petronel's daughter and Acacio's youngest. Mahalia is terribly spoiled little thing, sheltered by her mother and coddled by Jast, she lives in the North safe from harm. She tries to be aware of the dangers of the world, but without any practical experience she is pretty clueless. She has been very much raised by Jast, but unlike Christopher, her youth and inexperience sees her powers mostly untested. Fela would squish her with hugs all day long.

The Northern soldier who raped Fela. He is Andros's father and has two other children, making Mattan and Havilah's lives very awkward considering Starling has fucked their grandmother, raped their paternal aunt, and had another son with their maternal aunt. ]Starling's an asshole. Nuff said.

Gauvain Crowe didn't know what he was getting into when he fell in love with Fela. A younger witch with the power of teleportation, he lived most of his life carefree, cowardly, and arrogant. He saw the forgetful dreamchaser woman as the perfect lover for a drifter like him, but soon discovered that once had been no strings attached had become a pleasant habit. He was only nineteen when Benito came to inform him that Fela was pregnant, but he decided to accept the responsibility as much as he could. Fela wasn't having any of that. She would not stop him seeing his daughter, but he was not her husband, her partner, or her boyfriend. He has spent Delilah's entire life falling more and more in love with Fela and trying to prove himself to her.

Fela's eldest son, in Starling's absence, he spent most of his life looking up to his uncle Benito as a father figure. When he became a teenager, however, he was told about the truth of his conception and later met his siblings, the older Lucia and the younger Nekoda. Andros is horribly tormented by the pain his existence caused his mother as well as the bad interaction Starling's dark glitter has with the dreamchaser heritage. He feels like a taint and unworthy of love or life, and this attitude truly breaks his mother's heart. He tries to be good to his mother and his little sister, but this is one thing he has not compromised on, despite their tears.

Gauvain's daughter, Delilah is an absolutely carefree little creature. She has a mixture of her parents' glitter, is not able to teleport through real space, but can walk dreams, using sleeping people as gateways from place to place. A bright, happy girl, Delilah is one of few who is able to visit with everyone in the family, and she does so regularly, probably knowing more about all the various drama that occurs but not paying any attention to any of it. She's just turned thirteen but is still very childish. Impulsive and always on the look out for adventure, she still requires a lot of supervision and still goes crying to Daddy when she gets her feelings hurt. She loves her big brother a lot and is completely baffled by his darker moods and cruel words.

Jules is Rachel's husband and is not the father of any of her three children. He doesn't really care and has treated Christopher like his own, welcomed Acacio into his house, and is happy to spout cynical French philosophy or talk about the news with any one of the Sernas who come to visit. He likes playing granddad to Chrissy's twins too.

Raleigh is the father of Rachel's youngest son. He is an asshole and has no bearing on the Bonheurs other than to be universally disliked by Christopher, Lucia, and Hector for his rude treatment of their mother.

Christopher's lover and partner. The two met after Reilly had been disowned by his family for being gay. It took years of love and care before he was able to recover from it, but will one day be a really great father figure to Christopher's sons.

The mother of Christopher's sons, she was essentially bargained to Christopher as a womb in exchange for bringing the dreamchaser blood into the Morrison line. Abused and very distant, she is sometimes present in the Bonheur home, it is somewhat a place of sanctuary. She is well loved by her sons.

Lucia is Starling and Rachel's daughter. She is Christopher's younger sister, maternally, and Andros's older sister, paternally. She and Christopher had a very close relationship, up until the point that Fela was raped. Lucia has always had an angry relationship to her powers, wanting to foster them and make her father proud, but trying to live up to her goody two shoes brother's standards. She wasn't able to make these two things mesh, and so she stopped trying to do either. She becomes a soldier and works separately from her aunt Sparrow and her father. She looks after her younger brothers, Andros and Nekoda, and wants to make her own small team with them. Andros has been resistant thus far, and it pisses her off watching him suffer the same struggle that she did. There's no fighting Starling's blood.

Christopher's youngest sibling of all at 14, Hector is Raleigh's bastard son. Hector has no glitter and is most suited to the Bonheur's high society world, catty and backstabbing. Hector's greatest aspiration is ruining Raleigh and taking over his political position. He wouldn't mind tormenting Raleigh's legitimate child while he's at it. Generally a nasty and disagreeable boy.

It doesn't really matter which of Christopher's twins is older, their glitter has tied them so closely together. Of the two, however, Mattan is the studier, the more grounded. Although the way the Morrison blood mixed with the dreamchaser power balanced exceptionally well in them. They are very powerful, also benefiting from Jast's influence in their life.

Havilah is the more emotional of the two twins, but both of the boys are better able to handle the socialite life better than their father. Despite being quite exceptional, the boys are not without worries. They are connected with the depraved Morrisons and must be wary of their family members on that side, especially as concerns their safety and the safety of their mother. There is a dark tint to their magic that often concerns them, but there is no way for it be erased.

The twins' older sister. The staunchest protector of their mother. When they were all young, she was often brought down to the Bonheur house to play with her brothers. All the Morrisons know about Fela's rape.

The twins' younger sister. All of Eden's children are good to their mother, but some are more typical to Morrison blood than others. Qetzi'ah certainly has no real desire to rebel and even dreams of making her elders happy by popping out a few babies of her own one day.

The twins' youngest sister. Less content with the status quo of the Hill, Kandake has yet to take any action, but it is uncertain what she might do with Sapphira's support were the Morrisons to take action against her older brothers.

The twins' cousin, Lucia and Andros's younger brother. A nasty, monstrous boy with incredible power, is both the Morrison's pride and joy and an enormous threat. He is very cruel and abusive towards Andros. Delilah, Fela, and Gauvain really hate his guts.

Hani's closest friend and tentative lover. A priest who moves through the South sympathetic to the witches' plight.

One of Tore's regular clients, though the reasons behind that are complicated. A very oppressed young woman, her scheduled prostitute is often then only friendly contact she has for months at a time. Cassandra is the heiress to the Alavanja trading company, possessing both wealth and connections.

Childhood friend of Acacio, killed by Prevent. Does ghosty shit from time to time. See: Foxy.

Acacio's lover/soulmate, often enough surrogate father and mentor to his children. His closest relationships are to Christopher and his twins, Mahalia, and to Delilah, but he tries very hard to keep up with the entire family as best he can. He is not always welcome and he has duties of his own to see to. He is the holy augur to the wardens of the earth.

Desidero in disguise. Foxy plays guardian spirit to much of the Serna family, although he tends to focus most closely on Acacio himself and the de Tisi family, out of concern for Domino/Dominique. He also finds himself offering comfort to the very bitter and unhappy Jack/Jackie and plays childhood pet to Bowen and Asha, who are sometimes able to discern who exactly he is with their residual powers.

A fellow courtesan at the Painted House alongside Tore, Luz, and Estele. She doesn't get along with them so terribly well.

Un-gender-fucked versions of Jackie and Dominique. Rather unfortunate and often enough tumultuous lovers, both ridiculously in love with each other and entirely unwilling to say so. They live together near-enough to the Bonheur family and have been housing Foxy for a few weeks now. Jack still hates Acacio.

Jast's lovers, family, roommates, etc. He lives with them, and Serna children have been known to come spend time at the golems' home.
