The Great Z80 Purge of 2009

Apr 19, 2009 21:55

A lot has been going on of late, but I've not kept up with it all on LiveJournal. I haven't done much more with the family tree and the trade directories of Colchester, although I did take another look at FreeBMD. FreeBMD is a volunteer effort to transcribe all the historical Births, Marriages and Deaths records of the UK, right back to the ( Read more... )

That Powermac is a nice model on an aesthetics level, but it's one of the bastardized boards with all kinds of different bus speeds. You'll find (I think) that it is termed a "road mac" by the mac loving community as it was originally designed to use an '060 chip - but then the PPC came out and was faster than the 060 would have been. (There was in fact an 040 version which came out).

You can even get a G3 upgrade card for these, so do keep your eyes open!

Well done on the clearing of stuff too. We should put that microscope back on freecycle too, unless you want it.

You also owe us a visit. You still haven't seen the new suite and it's been here since January! :O

Do you have access to any libraries with genealogical database subscriptions? The one where I work subscribes to three, which means you can track down info for free as long as you're a card-holder. For the best, you have to be in the library.

Of course, it seems to me I couldn't find much English stuff for my dead people, because they were too old and too local. I suppose I could have checked while I was there, but I'm only interested, not obsessed.

In the US, none of the census data post-1930 has been released. The delay is 70 years, what seemed a reasonable lifetime when the rules were put in place to preserve privacy, so we get the 1940 batch in 2010.

I'll pop over to the local library in Bradley Stoke and ask about family history resources. Thanks for reminding me! We have a delay of 100 years for census data, although the 1911 census has already been made available on the web. UK census data only goes back to 1841, which is just far enough that I should be able to find a certain Mr Beaumont, who's an ancestor. I also need to prepare a small display for the library on the Compukit UK101, in time for the 30th anniversary in August.

The very same! The Tiger was originally designed by Tangerine and then the design was manufactured by H&H (the guitar amp company). Not sure how many were made, but it certainly is a rare machine.
