A question

I wonder if you'd answer a question for me. Take as much time/space as you'd like.

What do you do and/or what is your reaction when you are publically disrespected?

It's been a long time since it's happened to me, but I guess that it would depend on the context. In every case, my initial reaction would probably be shock.
Among my peers I'd likely react with sharp wit, foul language and the threat of violence. :) In a work setting I'd spend the first few moments throttling my anger before replying in an icy fashion to attempt to restore the status quo or rebuke the one who trashed me, then I'd rage in private at the first opportunity.
What happened? Did someone diss you in public or are you just polling your fanbase?

Well, I'm thinking of a number of occasions...well...not a large number of occasions, but certainly more than one ( ... )

First I turn bright red, fall completely silent, and then I try not to burst into tears. Then I try to get away as soon as possible.

On rare, rare occasion, I have instead turned bright red, then very cold, then said "I don't think that's appropriate." But that's very, very rare.

I honestly can't remember the last time I burst into tears in public. Other than in character tears, I really don't know.

The last time I burst into tears in public (in a non-gaming fashion) was this Hallowe'en, and that was a reasonably extreme situation. With my old boss, though, it was a relatively frequent occurrence.

Oh dear.
I tend to punch first, rather than have tears.

...the last time, you were there. So I do not handle it well, obv. :/

"I'm sorry, I must have missed the memo that said you were exempt from being polite"

"Did we fail kindergarten? Poor dear, it's no wonder you have such horrible manners"

I used to turn beet red and either ignore it, or run away. I won't put up with it anymore, I've been the subject of some really really hateful things, and I have learned to value myself more and not allow others to act in any rude way towards me anymore. I also won't put up with people saying or doing anything disrespectful to/about my friends, I wished that my friends had stood up for me, and I know how badly it hurts.

It usually doesn't hurt, but it does piss me off. Usually because those who disrespect you usually try to command *your* respect.

Wow, I usually counter with some sort of cutting and yet witty remark...but that usually happens in my head...hours later.
