That's what *I* always thought. The suspension of disbelief required for you to accept that 20, 50, whatever, vampires all lived 'peacefully' in the same city was a HUGE stretch of the imagination. They should be trying to kill each other *all the time*, never mind the political backstabbing that was always played in the downtime...and sometimes at games. In fact, some of my favourite characters were the ones who were just nasty and underhanded. They screwed *everyone*.
I remember having a ST meeting where we were talking about what the actual ability of a city the size of the one we were setting the story in...what the ability of that city would be to sustain *one* vampire, never mind 60.
It amuses me, because every time I read something like this my immediate reaction is "Wait, what? There are folks who still play vampire?" It has been awhile since Vampire has been popular in Saskatoon(games running, yes. popular or the main game? no.), so for me vampire is almost sliding into the "Man, it'd be nice to see vampire ran well again..." zone

Around here, there are vampire games that spring up using OWoD rules & settings because, and this is a direct quote from one gamer, "I'll never play that New World of Darkness shit".
I dunno. I've never played NWoD, so I don't have anything to compare.
I do wonder, though, if it's just that I'm not as interested in the genre (Vampires are so 1980s) or if it's more that if I want to play in a game, I'll pretty much have to run it myself. Which I'm not sure I want to do.
I have found tons of people really detest NWoD, but that is generally either because they are terrified of something different(oh noes!), or because in taking out all the stuff I hate about OWoD, they also took out all the stuff the other folks like, and it just amounts to us liking different parts of the game. Even if one doesn't like the direction they took it in, it is definitely better designed though(in that, well, it was actually designed as opposed to growing up haphazardly and organically

I think most of the problem with most vampire LARPs is that they ended up like a long-running TV show - that is, predictable to the point of boredom. As you say, there is little left to be discovered.
After a couple of years, there was nothing new left to be seen, really. You knew what clan had what disciplines, the players and how they would (generally) react, the players who *played* and the players who were killing time...
Now, having said that, it doesn't surprise me that people want to go back to "the good ol' days". Again - how often have you said "I wish they'd bring back !" ? I can still dig up a couple of fond memories about the game, but you couldn't pay me to go back. Too many people trying to game the system, not enough role vs. too much roll (or worse, those who wouldn't get into a role...).
Vampire has, for lack of a better term, jumped the shark.
Vampire was great when it was shiny and new - when few people had heard of LARP and you could expand your gaming group from five to fifty. That was kind of cool

I still love Vampire larp. I love the angst, the drama, the political infighting.
I actually kind of hate Garou, because everyone being on the same side but still at odds kind of pisses me off, and... actually, that was about to turn into a very long rant. I hate Garou. But I would still try a larp of such, if I had the space in my agenda, because...
I love larping. I love getting dressed up, putting on a character, playing someone or something new. No matter what, no matter who. I just love it. No matter how little plot I might have, or how boring a game might be, I never quit larps. Because I love it.
