So, the Canadian 6 Degrees Midsummer Santa Fic Exchange is on. mergatrude has handed the keys over to the crazy mods of c6d_universe and we're determined to run the best, craziest, most rockin' Midsummer ever! We haz enthusiasm!
What is Canadian 6 Degrees?
Loosely defined, it is a large group of related fandoms that have some connection to the television show due South. This encompasses fandoms that are "six-degree-ish" of a small set of (mostly) Canadian artists:
Paul Gross, David Marciano, Callum Keith Rennie, Hugh Dillon, Don McKellar, Bruce McDonald, Daniel MacIvor, Sandra Oh, Molly Parker, James Allodi, Peter Outerbridge, and others.
A almost-but-not-quite comprehensive list of eligible fandoms can be found here.
For the purposes of this ficathon, just to make matching people up a little easier, we have defined a "core" set of fandoms:
Canadian RPF, Double Happiness, Eastwick, Flashpoint, Hard Core Logo, Last Night, Men With Brooms, My Life As A Dog, ReGenesis, Slings & Arrows, and Wilby Wonderful.
How this works
You will secretly be writing a C6D fandom story for someone else, as a Midsummer gift. A minimum of 1000 words.
Please realize that with the huge number of fandoms involved, matching people up can be a difficult proposition. So the more generic your request, the more fandoms you offer, the happier your mods will be.
You will be able to list 6 requests, detailing characters and pairings, prompts and suggestions. Two of these requests MUST be from the core fandom list - the other four can be any C6D fandom, or a crossover of two or more C6D fandoms. Be as detailed as you like in the sign-up form, or you can write a Dear Midsummer Santa letter for your Santa later.
Then you will offer as many fandoms as you can write, including pairings and characters and any special considerations. You MUST offer to write in at least two of the core fandoms.
After all the sign-ups have been received, you will be matched up with a recipient and you will receive their wish-list of 2-6 requests. You can choose to fulfill ANY one of them; you are not restricted to the one that you were matched on.
The sign-up form is located here. Fill it out and submit it. You should get an acknowledgment from one of the mods within 24 hours or so.
The schedule
Sign-ups run from now until 11:59 PM Chicago time, Tuesday, June 1st
Assignments will be sent out by Sunday, June 6th
Stories can be posted from Friday July 30th through Sunday August 1st
If you sign up, but find that you need to drop out, please let us know as soon as possible so we can organize a pinch hitter for your recipient.

We'll be putting posts up for betas and Dear Santa letters, as well as reminder posts as deadlines start approaching, so keep your eyes on the community, or track the posts with the "challenge: midsummer 2010" tag here at c6d_universe.
ETA: In case you're wondering, "Crazy mods, why can't I find due South on your list of core fandoms?" That would be because...it isn't there! "But why!", you may ask. Because this ficathon is specifically geared towards producing tasty fanworks of the non-dS media variety, so we're not including dS as either a core fandom or in secondary requests. This also includes crossovers.
