I love that Fred ballad!

JKR stated that she never kills off characters needlessly. So... there was another reason for bumping him off other than the angst factor?
Oh, I think that's bull. I think she just killed off people because she wanted cheap angst and so we all know the horrors of war. Snape dying was so predictable. As was Remus and Tonks because Harry has to end up a godfather like Sirius and the mirroring for Lily and James. Colin Creevy and Fred (got to have at least one Weasley in the death toll) were just fodder. I'm still miffed years after Sirius' death. I suppose everyone's got to be pissed when their favorite characters die, but JKR really has lame deaths for her characters (death by viel?!) and a lot of it seemed gratuitous.

As much as I would love to take credit for that piece of brilliance, I did not write it. It is an irish drinking song originally called "The Night that Paddy Murphy Died", but it definitely fit the bill, and I enjoyed thinking of the entire weasley clan being very very drunk.
