They offer Hunter Safety/Education to 6th-8th graders through an after school program in my old district. Maybe if you could find something like that for him when he gets a couple years older you'll feel a little more at ease? I know an air soft gun isn't exactly equivalent to hunting but it's still gun-related and it could soften the interest a bit since they pound a bunch of rules into you. I don't know. Just a lot of the boys seem to be really into that class.
They do have Hunter Education here but he will have to wait til 6th grade. If he insists on learning more, I'm going to ask one of the neighborhood dads if there is something available to younger boys. We honestly have no clue as The Man does not hunt.
