And, once again, it's been awhile! Lazy McLazypants.
Here is a run-down of Ezza's Christmas in bullet points. Thought you'd like that.
* I am very proud of myself for pulling off my final Christmas shopping, finishing my Christmas knitting, cooking a Christmas day lunch for
anord, Matt and myself, and managing to squeeze most of my family in, despite having a massive sore throat and very dodgy sinuses. Am now feeling like I've had a show-down with a steam-roller and like my neck has been stuffed with Christmas tree balls. Thank feck I was able to wrangle two weeks off work.
* While I'm still moaning about health, I managed to pick up the worst case of hayfever I've had in years on Christmas Evening. Some species of grass on my Dad's farm decided it had it in for me, and both eyes puffed up so badly it looked like I'd stepped out of a boxing ring, or like the Elephant Man in a dress. Left eye is still very swollen. :( Blech.
* I spent the evening before Christmas with my stepmum Jane, baby bro and sis, my Auntie Sara and cousin Jordan. We had a pizza dinner, and hung out on the beanbags under the
Telecom Christmas Tree. All very nice, except I am heartily sick of hearing Stepmummy launch into tirades about how hopeless and terrible my father is in front of the kids. Especially not when it blatantly obvious how much it upsets them, especially Rose. Gaaaaack.
* Was very proud of the vegetarian canneloni, and nachos with my own special sauce, which I made for Christmas lunch. Unconventional, yet delcicious. Was also very proud of my Christmas-cooking soundtrack, which consisted of Joanna Newsom, the Mountain Goats' latest album (an ironic homage to the Bible) and "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis.
* Dinner at Dad's farm was lovely, despite the scratchy eyes. We had roast pork, snapper and plum sponge, and I made chocolate-dipped strawberries for the kids. We all had a grand old time, messing around on the trampoline and splashing about in my little step-sister Freya's new paddling pool. Rose and Henry are still amazing and adorable, despite heading into that awkward pre-teen phase! Although, I am a little concenred that my sister A) claims that
Supre is her favourite shop, B) has started wearing skinny jeans (well, leggings that look very similar) and C) got a GHD hair-straightener from Dad for Christmas. There's something about 10-year-olds owning GHDs that's kinda wrong. ;P
* I really do like my Dad's fiancee, Catherine (Freya's Mum). Which makes me feel well guilty, given that I've got 13 years worth of split loyalties going on, but hey. Dad seems...settled, for the first time in quite a while. Here's hoping this relationship lasts, hey? He and I have also getting along a lot better of late, and have been spending more quality time together. He's mellowing out in his old age, I think.
* Dad got me a new digital camera, which was awesome (lost the charger for the one I bought in NYC, so have been using my Mum's old crappy camera). I spoilt Matt rotten as per usual. ;P Got him a T-shirt, several CDs, the anniversary DVD of Pulp Fiction, tickets to see
Neko Case play at San Fran Bathhouse and some massage oil, among other little things. He got me an iTunes voucher, plus a bracelet and earrings from my fave Cuba Street op-shop. This is our second Christmas together. I'm proud of us. :)
* Christmas knitting all got finished and has, so far, been very well received. Matt looks adorable in the beanie I made him. Can't say I'm keen to make that many gifts in that short a space of time again, however. Let the self holiday knitting commence, I say. ;P
Hope y'all had a fairly decent holiday season, and are enjoying slumming around on Boxing Day, like yours truly! I ain't doing much- just watching The Shawshank Redemption, eating Roses Chocolates, knitting and waiting for my eye to return to normal. And trying to be arsed cleaning the kitchen, and failing spectacularly.
Happy Chrimbo!
