Here's my wonky attempt at photo-capping the awesomeness that was 5x15. I've (obviously) focused mainly on dair scenes. Anyway, let me know what you think.
Awesome recap, I think you make some great points. Like the build up thing. As far as I'm concerned, the build up between them started all the way back in "Bad News Blair". Its so frustrating to see the haters who say, "Oh, the writers have run out of ideas, they're just trying to throw anyone together now!" Do they even watch the show or know the characters? From an objective, non-shipping point of view, the two are very similar. They're both romantics, they have similar tastes, not just in art and literature- they never seem to protest when one imposes a wardrobe change on the other (Blair on Dan mostly, but I'm trying to remember if Blair still wears headbands as often as she used to after he tossed hers during their first college party). When they forget about the perceived class differences, they actually get along pretty well. And even when they do bicker its like an old married couple
( ... )
NO need to apologize for the review length. As evidenced by the length of my recap, I love to chat (especially about GG related things).
And, I completely agree about how people tend to get "stuck" in ships (heck, I've been guilty of it myself in the past). People change and HOPEFULLY grow. And, yes, I think the reason a lot of once non-canon pairings have so much chemistry is because often they are more organic progressions in the show--and not just constantly thrown together because of "fate" or "destiny" etc. I once used to be a (casual) Derena and Chair fan myself and was even a little skeptical of DB at first. But they won me over :)
Oh, yeah, I forgot to give Georgina Shipper Props lol.
"Okay, seriously, have to take another diversion here. This is just my own personal pet peeve/ question: When did it become okay to just randomly drop professional bands into shows and then have major parts of episodes revolve around them? I'm not complaining necessarily, I'm just confused about when this became commonplace."
The WB made it a thing when they first started up, because they had no money to spend on music licensing. So they would dig into the Warner Brothers backlog of music and pull out whatever was cheapest. Then they'd make it even cheaper by throwing in a performance on the show. (You can read more about it in Season Finale: The Unexpected Rise & Fall of The WB and the UPN by Suzanne Daniels.)
But to my knowledge, the show that made it cool was The O.C., because they had that whole plotline about the club at the beach. I think One Tree Hill used a similar device at about the same time...the club Tric, where it seemed like EVERYONE worked at one time or another.
Thanks for the response to that question. You know, that actually kind of makes sense. I grew up watching the WB/CW and in retrospect, I guess these networks have been some of the major users of this "Random Band advertising" thing. Honestly it's doesn't bother me TOO much, but it does make me chuckle.
I just love everything you write, including "slightly ridiculous" recaps.I'm glad you still seem pretty optimistic despite the video thing (which got me down a lot personally). ps.please do update An acquired taste, it's like my favourite fanfiction of all time!)
Thank you so much for the comment. Yes, I'm trying to stay optimistic b/c: 1) We've waited so long for this moment, I refuse to let anything ruin it. 2) It's just seems so out of character for Dan to be that callous to Blair (in lying to her about it), that I'm just hoping/praying that they'll reveal more about it in the future.
Also YES. I am going to update An Acquired Taste. This next part has been taking me a while to write, plus A.D.D. etc. Thanks for your feedback about that fic, too :)

Also, ugh, Dair. I really can't see how Blair could be in denial anymore because she literally just made out with him sooooo...

Also, Blair is the Mistress of Denial. She owns Denial. It's should basically be her college major (if she even still attends college, lol)>
