Its been pretty obvious that tabloid newspapers are populated by evil fecktards for a very long time. So, like, why is everyone only just realising this now?

These papers have been employing some of the most immoral methods to gain information on sometimes very slight moral infringements by others, and whipping people up into fake, hysterical fury

Totally agree with Profyaffle in that we get the press (and the politicians) we deserve. It's easy to be shocked "today" and be outraged then forget all about it tomorrow. Somewhere along the line we lost interest in the news proper and turned our attention to personalities and expose instead. Probably because as a population we are mentally lazy and that way we dont have to think too hard about anything, just knee jerk react to whatever the latest headline is.

At the risk of sounding like a delusional stoner ("Dope doesn't make you paranoid! That's just what *they* want you to think!"), I suspect this is an intentional scandal that's being used to cover up / lead into something else.
