DC Comics One Year Later Solicitations Revealed

Dec 13, 2005 01:44

Well, they just released the first solicitations for the new DC Universe post-Infinite Crisis. All the core titles continuity skip ahead to a year later from their previous issue and to say that nothing is the same is an UNDERSTATEMENT. Some of my predictions look like they've come to pass while others are completely different!

Spoilers:

Superman: Is leaving Earth (supposedly for good)
Batman: There is a "new" vigilante in Gotham; and between him and the new commissioner of Gotham, they seem to be far more effective in the war on crime than Batman was.
Nightwing: Is M.I.A., supposedly in hiding somewhere in NYC and there is the cryptic phrase in the solicitation: "A Nightwing You've Never Seen Before" (the cover shows just his outstretched glove, holding a bloody metal weapon, and since it's clearly a male, I don't think there is any relation to the "other" Nightwing debuting in another title this month)
Robin: Is a fugitive, wanted for Murder, no longer affiliated with Batman (alluding to a huge fallout). He's also sporting a slightly altered costume, very "Battle of the Planets/G-Force"-ish. It's also alluded that Batman decides that it is his responsibility to take Robin down.
Infinite Crisis #6: Next to last issue of the crossover, and apparently "worlds die" and a major hero dies.
Supergirl and Power Girl: are living in the bottled city of Kandor and have adopted the new identities of Nightwing & Flamebird!
Supergirl apparently at some point in the missing year also went to the 30th century and joined the Legion of Superheroes
The Outsiders: supposedly no longer exist, at least officially
The Teen Titans: The previous lineup is gone and there is a "New Teen Titans" team, a new Doom Patrol as well as a second Titans team operating: Titans East!
Aquaman: has supposedly drastically changed.
Birds of Prey: have new members, but no mention of Barbara Gordon
Green Arrow is now the Mayor of Star City, making him the potential epitome of "the political fat cat" he's always fought against.
Hawkgirl: takes over the Hawkman title with no mention of Hawkman's fate.
JSA: is in shambles, trying to pick up the pieces after being destroyed from within
Catwoman: is no longer Selina Kyle, and apparently, Selina Kyle has changed her identity for unspecified reasons.

Completely M.I.A
There is absolutely no reference, title, or current team member presence for Wonder Woman, Flash, or ANY of the other Amazons or Speedsters. (No mention of Donna Troy, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, GA Flash (although he is on the JSA cover, the scene is a flashback image), etc.
No mention of quite a few heroes. Of the team of heroes Donna Troy assembled, only Supergirl and Firestorm are mentioned, and both are very different now.

Damn it! I can't decide if all this change is genius on DC's part, or a HORRIBLE, fatal mistake....and there's no way in the world I am going to be able to afford it all. I remember 20 years ago being a little kid and getting constantly kicked out of the nearby pharmacy/convenience store for thumbing through the comic rack as fast as I could to read the original Crisis storyline because i could never actually afford to buy a comic. I just may have to try an updated version of that strategy. *G*
