DO ANYTHING

From her room, she could hear the giggling in Hazel’s room. Rolling over, she looked at her clock and frowned. The bright green numbers read 3:27 a.m. Getting out of bed with a soft curse, Gabby moved into the kitchen. She rummaged through the cabinet, letting pots bang together and tumble onto the floor. Retrieving the kettle, she stood and filled it with water before putting it on the stove.

“Enough water for two?” Wade asked as he crossed the threshold into the kitchen.

Gabby looked over at him, “Of course. Hope I didn’t wake you up.”

“Nah, it was the giggling. Though, the banging pots didn’t help,” Wade replied as he took his customary seat on the counter. “Who do you think she brought home this time?”

“Who knows? Some stupid frat boy,” Gabby shrugged as she sent a scowl in Hazel’s general direction.

“When it’s ready, we should probably take our tea outside.” Wade commented.

Gabby gave a nod. It wasn’t long before they moved outside, and not a moment too soon. As they stepped outside, the giggling gave way to a rhythmic creaking. They shut the door quickly.

The early morning air was cool. Goosebumps broke out over their exposed skin. Gabby shivered and hot tea splashed out of her cup. She yelped as it hit her fingers.

“You all right?” Wade asked as he sat in one of the green lawn chairs resting on the porch.

“Of course,” She mumbled before taking her seat in the other chair. She sighed. “How long do you think they’ll be at it?”

Wade sipped at his tea. “Until the lust runs out.”
