Kyuhyun walked into the dorm, a single red rose in hand. He didn’t know what possessed him to buy it because he and Donghae had always said that they would never celebrate Valentine’s Day on Valentine’s Day. They both thought that you should show the one you love that you love them every day and not just on a single day, and it was more special to them if they chose the day instead of having Hallmark decide when they should show their love for each other. Maybe it was just the fact that Kyuhyun couldn’t walk down the street without seeing a man caring a bouquet of flowers to his car, red and pink heart shaped balloons outside almost every store, or a couple in a jewelry store picking out a ring. Kyuhyun thought he should at least do something stereotypical, so he went with a red rose.
Walking inside, Kyuhyun noticed that what he had been seeing walking down the streets had flooded into their dorm. There were at least seven dozen roses placed around the room, probably the same amount of stuffed animals, enough candy that could even satisfy Donghae’s sweet tooth, the same heart shaped balloons found outside wondering around the ceiling, and cheesy Valentine’s Day cards and movies scattered all over the living room’s table. Either one of the members screwed up and needed to apologize to their partner, or some of the fan’s gifts made it to their place. Either way, the place looked like a damn flower shop done up for the holiday.
Kyuhyun slightly felt like if he were to breathe harshly out through his mouth, pink and red glitter would come out. Kicking through an army of stuffed toys, Kyuhyun walked to his and Donghae’s shared room, planning on catching him off guard while he was resting in between his schedule and present him with the rose, but when he opened the door he found that the room was empty, which was odd because Donghae had a three hour break before he had another appearance. Stepping back out into the hallway, rose still in hand, he noticed that the whole dorm was empty (minus the gargantuan amount of bears, flowers, balloons, etc.).
Confused, Kyuhyun went down the hall, looking for any of the others. Just as he got to the first door (Heechul’s room) the door swung open, startling Kyuhyun and said owner of the room stepped out, a big brown teddy bear under one arm and a glass of bubbly in the other.
“Heechul,” Kyuhyun called out as the older pushed his way past making a beeline straight for one of the box of chocolates lying in the other room, “where is Donghae?”
Setting the glass down, Heechul flipped open the lid to one box and picked up a treat, shrugging his shoulders, “idontknow” he mumbled. He took one bite of the treat, made a face and threw it over his shoulder before picking out another chocolate. “He left a while ago,” grabbing the box, Heechul made his way back to his room, “He seemed pretty upset.”
Kyuhyun’s eyes widened, “Upset? Why?”
Heechul paused in the doorway and slowly turned around to throw him a look that screamed are you stupid? Raising a well sculpted eyebrow, “Are you serious?” He didn’t bother to hide the same are you stupid? tone his eyes were shooting him.
Kyuhyun shook his head. How was he supposed to know if he hadn’t been there when Donghae had gotten upset?
Rolling his eyes, Heechul dropped the bear on the floor and placed the box of chocolates just inside the room on a small table, just so he could fold his arms across his chest and give him the whole aren’t-you-supposed-to-be-a-genius look.
“Maybe it has something to do with the fact that today is Valentine’s Day and his boyfriend didn’t even bother to say ‘Hey Donghae, Happy Valentine’s Day, I love you’ at all.”
Kyuhyun’s confusion deepened. “But we both agreed that we weren’t going to be traditional and be all ‘you must go all out and show the one you love that love that you hide on this specific day’. We were going to make it more special and pick our own day.”
Half way through Kyuhyun’s explanation, Heechul’s head fell and was shaking, his shoulders shaking slightly from suppressed laughter.
“What?” Kyuhyun asked, suddenly fidgety.
A bark of laughter escaped from Heechul’s mouth, “You weren’t going to be traditional? Donghae agreed to this?”
Kyuhyun slowly nodded his head, which seemed to cause more laughter to escape from Heechul.
“Lee Donghae agreed not to celebrate Valentine’s Day? The Lee Donghae who believes in true love, love at first sight, soul mates, puts his all into a relationship two weeks into one, and who wears his heart on his sleeve? That Lee Donghae?” Kyuhyun’s face fell and the rose he was holding in his hand felt like it was a hundred pounds, and he suddenly felt like his IQ had dropped drastically…..not to mention he felt like the worst boyfriend ever.
Heechul tilted his head to the side, “I’ll take your silence as an ‘I fucked up’.”
The younger ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “Yeah, I fucked up.”
“Well, you’re in luck,” Heechul stepped away from the door and started pushing Kyuhyun towards the door, kicking more and more stuffed animals out of their way, “Aish, stupid stuffed animals,” He paused to open to door, shoving Kyuhyun out, “Donghae left about ten minutes ago, if you hurry up, you can probably catch him.” Heechul made a move to close the door.
“Wait! Hyung,” Kyuhyun caught the door with his foot just before Heechul slammed it in his face.
“What?” The older barked back.
“Why are you in such a hurry to get rid of me?”
“Because I care about my dongsaeng’s relationships,” He answered quickly, about to slam the door in the others face, but Kyuhyun stopped it from closing again.
“Do you have something planned for Valentine’s Day?” He asked, eyeing the other.
“Of course not,” Heechul kicked the younger’s foot out of the way before he closed the door, locking it behind him.
“What the hell?” Kyuhyun mumbled to himself. That was odd even for Heechul.
Not really caring to worry about that, he decided to focus on finding his boyfriend.
Kyuhyun reached the elevator and hit the down button before he saw that the lights above said elevator were flashing ‘Out of Order’. Kyuhyun closed his eyes and his head fell back, “Fuuuuuuuck,” He was going to half to walk down 12 flights of stairs. THE DAMN WAS WORKING EARLIER!
Just as he reached the stairs, again, the door swung open. This time it was Sungmin behind the door.
Sungmin froze when he saw the younger standing in front of him but relaxed as his eyes lit up and a smile spread across his face, “Hey Kyuhyun! Where you headed?”
Kyuhyun walked into the stairwell, “Going to find Donghae,” Kyuhyun watched as Sungmin headed for the dorm he was just kicked out of, “Where are you going?” He asked just as Sungmin knocked on the door. He never really got the chance to answer. The door to the dorm swung open, Heechul reached out and grabbed the younger, pulling him inside quickly, the door slamming shut with a type of finality.
Kyuhyun stood there, his eyes bulging out of his head. Heechul and Sungmin?! That was not a pair he would have seen happening.
Ignoring the sickening thoughts that sprang to mind picturing Heechul and Sungmin as a couple, Kyuhyun headed for the long trek down, insides already groaning at the thought of all those steps. He was sure that three floors down he was going to be feeling his muscles protest.
Sure enough, three flights of stairs down, he was pausing to catch his breath.
The closer Kyuhyun was getting to the first floor, the harder his breath came. He was really going to have to minimize his gaming habit and start working out. At the fifth floor, Kyuhyun stopped and sat down, trying to calm his racing heart. Each breath he took in it stung his lungs and they ached to get the next gulp of air. He could feel each bead of sweat start to form as they gave his skin a slight sheen. He really, really needed to do some type of workout that didn’t include dancing or a heated night in between the sheets with Donghae.
Just as Kyuhyun got up to make it down the last few floors, he heard a faint ‘thump thump thump’. Not thinking anything of it, Kyuhyun stood up and walked down three steps when he heard it again, ‘thump thump thump’. Furrowing his eye brows, Kyuhyun leaned over the railing and looked down. There, leaning with his back against the wall almost two floors down, he saw a small head of chocolate brown hair, face pointed towards the ground, and saw him kicking the wall lightly with the heal of his foot. Kyuhyun knew that head of chocolate hair. Sighing, Kyuhyun walked down the last few sets of stairs slowly (not feeling the need to rush anymore) until he came to the top of the stairs that Donghae was standing on.
Kyuhyun saw Donghae peek at him from the side and he noticed how Donghae seemed to kick the wall a little bit harder.
Kyuhyun went and stood across from the older, his back to the railing, and waited until Donghae stopped kicking the wall. Donghae gave one last round for three kicks to the wall before he placed his foot back on the step and leaned more into the wall, arms wrapped loosely about his torso.
The corners of Kyuhyun’s lips twitched, slowly forming a smile as he watched Donghae pout. Most people would say that a grown man pouting is childish and that it was unfitting, but Donghae was like a child trapped in a 25 year olds body. The pout was still as powerful as ever even is he wasn’t that scrawny, dorky Donghae he had been just two years ago. The pout fit him just fine with his new build…the dorky thing too.
Kyuhyun brought his foot out in between them and lightly tapped the tip of his foot on top of the toe of Donghae’s shoe. “Hey,” he said softly. After all, he was going to have to be sweet for thinking Donghae would be fine with letting Valentine’s Day go by like any other day.
It took a few seconds, but, “Hey,” Donghae said barely above a whisper. If they hadn’t been in a stairwell (where the sound carries) Kyuhyun would have missed what the older said. Donghae moved his foot off the stop, lifting his and Kyuhyun’s (whose was still on his), and made a circular motion as if they were playing a cute game of footsy.
As cute as Kyuhyun found this side of Donghae, who still kept his face downwards, he needed to lift his spirits. Kyuhyun extended his hand in between them and presented his single red rose. Donghae gave the object a fleeting glance as he pulled his foot back, “Did you take that from one of the bouquets in the dorm?” He finally looked up at Kyuhyun and the younger felt like a really shitty boyfriend for not wanting to celebrate the stereotypical holiday. His eyes looked as if he had been fighting off tears for the better part of an hour.
“No, I bought if just for you.” He stepped closer to Donghae, keeping the rose raised in between them, still offering to his boyfriend, who he thought was close to just grabbing it and throwing it in his face. Which he wouldn’t blame him, cause Heechul was right. He had fucked up in thinking that Donghae who believed in things like true love and soul mates would pass on the holiday of love.
It took a moment before Donghae felt like Kyuhyun was telling him the truth and not just trying to save his ass, so he took the rose that was offered to him. But it wasn’t down wholeheartedly. He took it as if to get it out of the way. “Thank you,” Donghae mumbled, keeping his eyes on the soft red petals in his hand.
Sighing, and feeling his heart strings tighten at his action, Kyuhyun stepped away from the railing and moved until he was close to pressing their bodies together, making sure not to crush the rose that Donghae was holding.
It was silent for a few heartbeats until Kyuhyun placed his forehead on the crown of the shorter one’s head and took in the scent that stained the pillows that lied in his bed. It was a moment longer before Donghae moved his arms and wrapped them around Kyuhyun’s neck, pulling him closer, no longer any space between them. Kyuhyun wrapped an arm around Donghae’s waist and brought the other hand up to the nape of Donghae’s neck to play with the short hairs there.
“You know I didn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day cause I thought we were going to make our own day, right?” Kyuhyun murmured into Donghae’s chocolate brown hair.
Donghae moved his head to rest it in the crock of Kyuhyun’s neck, “Yeah, I know.”
“Then why are you upset? You know I didn’t do it as a cop out?”
Donghae shrugged his shoulders, the movement awkward because of their position, “I guess when I walked in and saw all those Valentine’s gifts…” Donghae trailed off.
“Hmm…” Kyuhyun hummed in understanding.
There was another moment of silence between them.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Donghae.”
Donghae smiled against Kyuhyun’s neck, “Happy Valentine’s Day to you too, Kyuhyun.” His lips ghosted over Kyuhyun’s skin.
Donghae pulled away and took a hold of one of Kyuhyun’s hands, lacing their fingers together, pulling the younger back up the stairs. Sighing, not looking forward to walking back up all those stairs he just walked down, he followed Donghae back up to the dorm.
“Hey, Donghae, did you know Heechul and Sungmin were together?”
A/N: I am sorry about the unintentional hiatus I seem to have taken the past few months and I feel horrible for it, but writer’s block is like a freaking presence hanging over my head and it never leaves me long enough to write anything new. I’m surprised I was able to get this done. Speaking of that, I had intended this to be a 500 or so word drabble but, like always with drabbles, I got carried away. I hoped that the three that I was thinking of was going to ADD UP to this word count. But that just didn’t happen :\
Since it’s been so long since I have written anything, I apologize if this seemed lacking in a few aspects. I’m rusty! xD But I hoped you enjoyed it none the less ^_^
I don’t know when an opening in my writer’s block will happen again, so until then
I loves you guys and COMMENT COMMENT COMMENT! n_n
