Summary: Kyuhyun has developed a different addiction and Donghae wants to know what it is. But Kyuhyun hasn't told him. He hasn't told anyone for that matter. He has been sneaking out late at night and staying out until the wee hours. Only one other person knows and that is the person who introduced him to it. This new addiction is dangerous but Kyuhyun doesn't care. As long as he gets his fix he could care less. But this new addiction will cause the lives of Super Junior to change, some more than others.
All through the radio interview, Donghae noticed Kyuhyun kept looking at his phone every few minutes, as if he were waiting for a call. He didn’t want it to seem like he was watching him, which he was, so he refrained himself from looking at Kyuhyun, he just kept him in his peripheral. He noticed that every time he looked at his phone, he looked disappointed.
Half way through the interview Donghae pulled out his phone and texted the younger man.
Expecting a call?
Donghae hit the send button and watched as Kyuhyun’s eyes suddenly lit up at the fact that he was messaged. But his hope was short lived. When he looked at his phone and saw who it was from his face practically dropped to the floor.
Kyuhyun looked up and turned in Donghae’s direction. He saw that Donghae was looking at him as if he were trying to look into his mind.
No, why?
Donghae’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out and laughed to himself upon reading it. Yeah right.
Typing his reply, he quickly hit send and turned back to listen to what the DJ was saying.
You’ve been looking at you phone the entire time we’ve been here. Kyuhyun read on the tiny screen. Kyuhyun tried to think of something fast. It was one thing if he didn’t send a message back for a while when his hyung wasn’t in the same room as him, simply hoping the other would think he was busy or hadn’t heard his phone go off. But they were both in the same room and Kyuhyun suddenly realized that Donghae was watching him from the corner of his eye.
Playing on the fact that he was tired, Kyuhyun sent back his reply.
I’m just tired and I want to get out of here.
Donghae looked up to peak at his roommate. He did look tired, then again he’s been looking like that for the past week, and he believed that that could be a part of it. But Donghae kept getting the feeling that there was something else, something that was connected to his staying out late. But he just didn’t know what and it irritated him that he couldn’t find out what it was unless Kyuhyun told him. And he highly doubted that he would tell him, since he was trying so hard to keep it a secret.
Donghae sighed and slipped his phone back into his pocket finally turning his full attention to the radio show they were doing at the moment.
Kyuhyun relaxed and mentally kicked himself. The one person he was sure he wouldn’t have to worry about finding him out was starting to get suspicious. And when Donghae knew something was up, he would stop at nothing to find out what it was. The little bugger was persistent when he wanted to be.
He had gone this long without being found out and he was starting to think that Donghae had been noticing his habits were changing for a while. Sometimes Donghae would look at him like he was mentally drilling into his brain trying to get a peak at what he was thinking and doing, much like he had been earlier. And Donghae had to notice that Kyuhyun was coming home later and later every night. Even Donghae wasn’t that much of a dunce to not notice when he would sneak back into his bed late at night.
A few nights, Kyuhyun just knew that Donghae had just fallen asleep right before he got home. Donghae always had his strange habits whenever he slept and they always came out the longer he was asleep. But when Kyuhyun would come home he wouldn’t see Donghae half sprawled out on his bed; legs sticking out of the covers, one hanging over the edge of the bed, and him gripping his pillow like it was a teddy bear, which the one that he would usually cuddle with right before he fell deeply into sleep was thrown on the floor like he would always do when he was deeply under. So he knew that Donghae had always just fallen asleep not moments before he entered the room.
His new addiction was taking an effect on Donghae even. And he felt a little guilty because of that. His hyung cared deeply for him; he even missed out on his sleep waiting for Kyuhyun to come home, which he never saw him do.
But Donghae never seemed like he was missing out on sleep. The hyperactive fish boy never seemed tired, no matter how much sleep he lost. He always had enough energy to last throughout the day and only needed a couple hours of sleep to replenish him. Kyuhyun wished that he was the same way. Even though he’s not going to stop what he’s been doing, it was taking a toll on him and he wished that he could be like Donghae and run on only two hours of sleep. Everyone has their flaws.
Walking out of the studio room, Kyuhyun felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He looked over to Donghae, suspecting that it was him that had texted him, he saw that he was too engrossed in a conversation with Eunhyuk to have been the one to have sent it.
His heart leaping into his throat, Kyuhyun pulled out his phone and looked to see the new message. He stood there looking at the screen, not recognizing the number. But then he remembered that the new updates would always be sent to him from a different number. He didn’t know why, but the others had said that it was merely a safety precaution. And that if the recipient didn’t know the number, then it wouldn’t be saved into their phone and if someone else had happened to see it then they would think that it was just someone who had gotten the wrong number.
Which is why all that was ever sent in the messages was just an address, which is what was displayed on the screen of Kyuhyun’s phone.
Clicking out of the message, Kyuhyun shoved his phone back in his pocket and walked over to Leeteuk.
“Hyung?”
Leeteuk turned around at being called by the maknae and smiled brightly.
“Yes, Kyuhyun?”
“Hyung, how much time till the next show?”
Furrowing his brows slightly at Kyuhyun’s question, Leeteuk looked down at his watch.
“Just over an hour, why? Is something wrong?”
Kyuhyun waved his hands worriedly at his hyung’s concern. “No, I was just wondering if I have time to nap for a little bit. I didn’t sleep very good last night.” He lied with a straight face. Another good thing that came from this new addiction, Kyuhyun was learning how to be a better liar.
He could tell just how good of a liar he was becoming because Leeteuk didn’t catch on and just nodded his head in understanding. It was not easy to lie to Leeteuk. He may not call you out on it, but he always had a look in his eyes that said he knew you were hiding something and that he knew EXACTLY what that was. But no such look was in his eyes as he looked back at Kyuhyun.
Leeteuk placed his hand on Kyuhyun’s back and lead him away from the group, so they could talk with something that resembled privacy.
“Kyuhyun, you’ve been looking exhausted for the past week. Are you okay?” The leader whispered into Kyuhyun’s ear. Over the past week or so, Leeteuk had not missed the dark blue circles slowly start to appear under his eyes. He was starting to think that he was being worked too hard. Kyuhyun was very dedicated to what he did, hell, when he had gotten into that car accident a few years back; he fought to stay alive and came back to work when everyone said that he should just rest. He never wanted to disappoint the fans and now with the new album, he’s taken on more active roles in the group and Leeteuk has been noticing that he was pushing himself to make sure he was at his best. Sometimes Leeteuk thought that he was going to push himself past his limit. He was missing out on sleep, meals, and every morning Kyuhyun would wake up just in time to head out the door with nothing but a breakfast bar to eat. He had scolded him once for not taking care of himself, but he knew that whatever his reason for doing it, it must be for good reason. Kyuhyun always took care of himself.
“I’m fine hyung. I’ve just been working hard and loosing track of the time.” He lied smoothly, again.
Nodding, Leeteuk gave Kyuhyun a little push and said, “Rest in the van. We won’t be using it for a while so no one will disturb you.”
“Thanks hyung.” He smiled to the older and walked down the hall, heading for the elevator.
Donghae watched as Kyuhyun made his way down the hall. He was sneaking off again and Donghae knew it. Donghae squirmed. He had to know what he was up to. Excusing himself from the conversation he was having with Eunhyuk, Donghae ran down the other end of the hall and took a different elevator than Kyuhyun had taken. He didn’t want Kyuhyun to know he was following him.
Once in the elevator, Donghae pressed the button for the first floor and leaned on the back wall, waiting impatiently for it to reach his destination.
The doors slid open just in time for Donghae to see Kyuhyun walk past his elevator, him not being spotted, and saw him practically run out the door. Donghae ran to keep him in his sight. If he lost him now when he knew he would find out what was going on, he would beat himself silly. There was no other time when that was served to him on a platter for him to find out. And he knew that if this moment passed and he didn’t take it, then he would never find out. Since Kyuhyun wasn’t going to tell him what was going on any time soon. Once Donghae found out what was going on, he was going to out him and slap him for not telling him.
Donghae had followed Kyuhyun for fifteen minutes, pulling back every so often when he was getting close to Kyuhyun and then running to catch up when Kyuhyun was beginning to get out of his sight. Kyuhyun had pulled up his hoodie and zipped it up, pulling his limbs closer to him, looking like the spokes man of someone who was hiding something. Donghae had almost lost Kyuhyun once or twice. Kyuhyun was wearing a white hoodie and that seemed to blend in with the crowd around him. Once he had lost him and hadn’t realized that he was so close to him until he bumped into him and saw the side of Kyuhyun’s face when he turned around, just enough to yell at whoever had bumped into him, but not enough to get a glimpse of who had done it.
Kyuhyun crossed the street at that moment and Donghae froze where he was, just about to follow him, when he saw Kyuhyun approach someone and said person had pulled him into a store nearby. Donghae quickly ran into the coffee shop that he was currently in front of and sat at the table that was leaned up against the glass, giving him a good view of Kyuhyun and the other person. Donghae picked up a nearby news paper and pretended to read it, just in case Kyuhyun looked over.
Donghae watched as Kyuhyun and the other person seem to talk, and by the looks of it; by the straightness of Kyuhyun’s back and the look on his face, it was all business. A few times while he was watching him, Donghae had to shoo away one of the waitresses who kept coming over to see if he wanted anything. Every time she asked, Donghae never took his eyes off of the pair across the street, in case he missed something, and gave her the same ‘no’ he had given her all the other times. Eventually, the girl gave up.
About five minutes later, Donghae finally saw something that was worthwhile. He saw the strange man, he had finally seen his face to determine that fact, slip something into Kyuhyun’s hands. He watched as, it seemed like, Kyuhyun clasped it his chest, like it was some type of precious treasure.
Donghae’s mind suddenly wondered to the idea that maybe KH was a hit man and he was witnessing the exchange of a new assignment, or he was getting paid for having completed a recent assignment. His thoughts then flickered to last night. Last night was the latest Kyuhyun had stayed out and it makes since that today would be paid day.
Donghae’s eyes suddenly widened at the fact that maybe he was sharing a room with an assassin. He doesn’t know why he never saw the signs. Kyuhyun always had a look of disinterest in his eyes, which also always looked stone cold, he never laughed, he was always reserved, he seemed to love the games where he got to kill things (which he was always good at). And he remembers back when he first met Kyuhyun he had looked completely scary to him, while looking scared himself. Maybe he was just a good actor and that why he was able to keep this a secret for so long. And no one would suspect someone out in the lime light to be a killer…or at least, not right away, giving said person time to get away.
Donghae shook his head vigorously. He really needed to stop watching those movies with Eunhyuk, they were starting to get to him. Kyuhyun would never kill someone…even if he did look evil and could woo his way into people’s hearts and get them to trust him rather quickly.
Stop it! He told himself. It could be something else.
Donghae watched as the man left and then about a minute later Kyuhyun exited the store. He looked around, as if checking to see if no one was watching, and began to walk the way he had come. Quickly throwing the paper down, he ran after Kyuhyun, just missing the fifth time the waitress coming to see if he wanted anything.
On the way back to the studio, Donghae took the same precaution that he had taken when he followed him there, stepping back then running to catch up.
They had reached the studio. Donghae stayed behind a bush as Kyuhyun entered the grounds of the radio building. There was only one way into the building and that was through the front door and there were not a lot people running around to give Donghae enough cover to follow him and not be caught. He stood there watching as Kyuhyun got into the van. Deciding that he was, somewhat, in the clear Donghae quickly ran towards the buildings doors. He stopped when he got to the van, ducking down low, trying not to be seen if Kyuhyun happened to look out the windows.
Donghae had his back to the front doors, when he slowly peaked into the van, trying to see if Kyuhyun wasn’t paying attention so he could slip back inside.
Coming up to nose height, Donghae looked inside. Kyuhyun had slipped his headphones on and was looking down at his lap. From where Donghae was, it looked like Kyuhyun was sleeping. His eyes were closed, his face was relaxed, and he looked peaceful. He looked better than he had been looking the whole time this stuff was going on.
Deciding the coast was clear; Donghae ran for the doors and sighed once he was inside.
Just as he got to the elevators, he went to push the up button, when the doors opened, causing him to jump slightly, and the rest of the members walked out.
“Hyung, where have you been?” Siwon asked.
“Oh, I just needed some fresh air. It was a bit stuffy in there.”
They walked out front to the van and got in.
Donghae was the last to get inside the van and he took the only seat that was left, the one that was right behind Kyuhyun.
All through the ride, Donghae kept his eyes on the back of Kyuhyun’s head.
Kyuhyun is not a killer. Kyuhyun is not a killer. Kyuhyun is not a killer. Donghae kept repeating to himself.
