LOL! Duck was so oblivious to the awkward tension between Pete and Peggy. Didn't he notice Pete's bitch faces?! haha
He and Pete remind me a lot of each other. They are so awkward and clueless and don't really seem to notice it unless someone holds it up to their face.
Duck Phillips has never struck me as the awkward type. Never. He was able to sense a chemistry between Pete and Peggy. He simply was unaware of the conflict between them . . . until the scene at the restaurant, when Pete walked out. And I don't see how he was expected to know.
Awkward was probably not the right word for it. It's more like he's not really on the same page as other people but comfortable with it. And maybe I'm remembering last season incorrectly (I only watched each episode once where as I usually watch episodes a few times), but I felt like Duck was sort of on the outs with other Sterling Cooper folks. He was in the last episode at least.
I guess I thought Pete's bitch faces were so obvious that he'd pick up on it right away.
I really loved this episode. Betty's dream was intense and her mum holding a bloody towel to the back of whom I assume was Medgar Evers head was so powerful. I feel so bad for Betty right now. But at least she looked incredible in this ep!
Sally is the HBIC!
I was so happy Pete and Peggy finally interacted with each other and I can’t wait to see who’ll end up leave Sterling Cooper. You’re absolutely right, I never noticed their is a slight resemblance between Duck and Pete. That scene between Pete and Hollis was so awkward/amazing. This is why I love that weaselly little bastard so much.
I didn't even recognize him as Medgar Evers until I saw it pointed out somewhere. But, yes, it was very powerful, even if one didn't get the reference right away. It was still obvious that he was some sort of civil rights activist.
I love that Sally is getting some real meat to her character. The girl who plays her does a really good job, too, and makes me hope that Matt Weiner doesn't take a long jump forward between any seasons because I don't want her recast.
I think the writers handled the Pete/Peggy interaction wonderfully. It was quite powerful, I thought. And even though Pete can be bastard a lot of the time I think a lot of that behavior is him trying to mask his insecurities, and that's part of what makes him such a compelling character.
See, and I totally loved the scene between Don and the prison guard as long as it went. Really, I just love that Don has told something real to every single stranger he's met this season.
On the other hand, his thing with the school teacher gets a giant WHATEVER from me. Seriously. I don't care.
I think you also missed the most shocking thing that happened in the elevator in that Pete Campbell made a joke someone actually thought was funny. And what's even crazier is that I didn't even have to cringe at it.
I think that my problem with the scenes between the two have more to do with the fact that I wish more time could have been spent on Joan, Harry, Paul, and/or Ken. I sort of feel like they get shafted too much in favor of the Drapers. I love the most of the Drapers' story lines, though, don't get me wrong, but spreading around screen time a little certainly wouldn't hurt the show.
I'm glad that even thought the scene was awkward it left on a good note. It makes the scene bearable in re-watches.
These are really beautiful caps and I feel like I can understand the story better now that I can see the expressions of the actors in stills. Especially January's face when she's crushing the caterpillar... ::shudder::
Wading through the screencaps and cleaning them up afterwards made me see the episode in a new way. This was my first major picspam, so I didn't know what to expect from it. It was a nice surprise and will probably motivate me to do stuff like this more often.
Yes, Betty really seemed to enjoy that part a little for whatever reason. It's interesting.

-You're right, Duck and Pete do look alike.
-The elevator scene was amazing... "You're hollis, and I'm..." "Mr. Campbell"

When I was capping the elevator scene there was one cap where, for a split second, I thought Pete was Duck.
