This was wonderful. I read that story and I was so sad...

Honestly, most of the time, Wal-Mart has way more parking spots than they need, way more pavement. The world we live in really makes me sad sometimes.

This is so sad. :( I remember reading stories in this light from the point of view of the Christmas tree growing in the forest, getting chopped down, living in the family's living room, and being abandoned. They always made me cry. It's almost worse when I realized that the stories were probably intended to be joyous.

This is not forever, you know. History tells us that even the mightiest of civilisations will meet an end, one way or another. There are cities, once deemed great and indestructible, now buried underground, cities that were built from stone and now nothing but mounds in the earth beneath the trees. I don't believe that the way we live now will last forever, and what will come after it may be better or worse, but it doesn't matter, because it it is human nature to be dissatisfied with what we already have.

You can't change the culture of the modern world, but you do not have to follow it. Buy from local shops, and support locally made produce - you cannot force others to change, but you may be the falling of small stones that starts an avalanche.
