We had whirlwind holidays this year. Details and a few pics after the cut:

First, we celebrated with M's family at our house the weekend before christmas. That was a pretty nice, laid-back day. We opened presents, decorated sugar cookies together, and then drove through the lightworks in the park. For some reason, I forgot to take pictures, but my niece and nephew had a great time and got way too many gifts.

We celebrated with my family on christmas day. It was my niece's first christmas, which made the day extra special, although at 6 months, she didn't care much one way or the other. This year's christmas theme was Chicago gangsters, so we all came prepared with our wanted posters and costumes, and then played the game, Mobopoly, that my dad had created. After the gifts, we headed to my aunt's house for christmas with my mom's family. The cousins range in age from 15 to 32, but only my brother has a child, so Baby Charley spent the afternoon being passed around. My brother calls her "the family joint." ;-)

On Dec 26, M and I left for five days in San Francisco. I spent 2 1/2 of those days interviewing job candidates while M bummed around the city. We ate great food...Indian, seafood (well, not me), Italian, Mexican, homemade croissants. So good. After San Francisco we headed to Monterrey to celebrate New Year's and our 10th anniversary. My favorite part of the trip was Alcatraz in SF; M's was the Monterrey Bay aquarium.

Now we're back home. Going away always makes me appreciate home. I still have eight days until spring semester starts. I'll spend most of that in St Louis, where my mom is having knee replacement surgery. My mom's had trouble with her knees for so long that I think we're all more excited for her surgery than we were for christmas.

Happy New Year, everyone!
