Something to do with feeling rude, maybe? Facebook is an unrealistic representation of social links, yet even though we may not like people in real life, we're often very careful not to give active offence to them. We just ignore them. "Friending" someone is a misnomer, because it implies they are actually a "friend" in the true sense. In reality, it seems just a tacit acknowledgement that you know this other person exists. You accept the request, to avoid giving offence. Yet you still ignore them, as you would in real life. When you deny this existence by defriending them, because they are called "friends" maybe it fires up a guilt reflex?

I don't know. It has its uses. I try not to go on too often. Though I've been on more than I should these last couple of days.. I'm currently fighting the urge to log on and see if you've defriended me ;)
