"They grow peaches on the moon," you said,
While we were sipping ginger and seaweed tea,
Waiting for dinner to finish baking,
The house rich with the smells of cinnamon and chicken.
"Eat one and live forever."

And I laughed, because it seems like
Fruit can cure all mankind's ills:
Peaches for immortality,
Apples for wisdom,
Grapes for the living,
Pomegranates for the dead.

I have a garden now.
I grow apples, peaches,
Pomegranates full and fine.

Perhaps one day I'll grow the fruit
That brings me back to you.
