Demons and Kingdoms

Last night I had a very vivid dream. Usually I remember nothing once I become conscious again, but now and then a dream is able to break free of its subconscious prison. Although little of the dream remains, here is a record of what I remember.

There were two distinct parts. Part one was short, but it strangely concerned this girl I know named Jennie. It took place in my room in the old house in Upper Deerfield, and it involved a lot of conversation among topics I don't remember and probably don't understand. It then evolved sexually in its action, but protectory in its meaning. Somehow I felt this great need to protect her in this way, and I don't understand the meaning behind it.

The second part involved a demon. A "rare" demon it was called, because it's one of a kind and far more powerful than other demons. It was huge, yellow-ish orange, lots of muscle, and a face that was somewhat reminiscent to Clem from Buffy. He was indestructible and walked around slowly, but ever towards me. He was followed by minions and also carried this huge gun that he kept shooting me with (think BFG from Doom). So anyway, we're in my old house on Walnut St in Carney's Point and I'm being chased by this thing. I hide in the closet of my bedroom, where he gets me trapped, and blasts me with his gun. Now here's the interesting part: my view fades, time rewinds, and I get to re-do the scene. Just like a video game. So I do it again, but this time avoid the hit from the gun and escape. Now I'm running through the living of my old house in Upper Deerfield, and find Zach who looks quite confused. A few more blasts from the gun and a few more rewinds and do-overs. I learn (or do I remember?) that the only way to defeat him is to take his gun and turn it on himself. Zach distracts him, I jump him from behind, and grab his gun. Problem is, the gun immediately falls apart into a crumpled mass and its powersource. Apparently, just as I grabbed it, it ran out of energy. So as the demon descends upon us, I grab both parts and drag Zach with me upstairs to his bedroom to determine how to fix the gun. We're now in a safe room where the demon can't touch us, so we have some time. Zach figures out how to get the gun together, but it requires its powersource to be recharged. Now we're in trouble, because the demon remained downstairs and is now protecting the charger. It was at this time when I lost all hope of defeating it that the scenes around me began to fade and I finally woke up.

I think I've been watching far too many Joss Whedon shows...

The secret to being a true ruler:

Yes. Nothing's what it used to be, is it? These are the fruits of your attempt to murder me. Your kingdom turned to ash and stale wind.

I slew the white-haired one first. And then Wesley as he raised his weapon and your demon clown as he wilted in terror. No, vampire, you were last.

You know nothing of this. You're from an earlier point in the time line. You're a paradox. You're impossible.

I didn't give you the chance. That you learn when you become a king. You learn to destroy everything that's not utterly yours. All that matters is victory. That's how your reign persists. You're a slave to an insane construct. You are moral. A true ruler is as moral as a hurricane. Empty but for the force of his gale. But you, trapped in the web of the wolf, the ram, the hart. So much power here, and you quibble at its price. If you want to win a war, you must serve no master but your ambition.

You have not lied. My undoing is beyond you, your people. Something is broken inside me. My power is too great. I know this now, as I know it every time I come to this moment.

Change is constant, yet things remain the same.
