TAKING ENTOMOLOGY TO NEW HEIGHTS

Jul 10, 2020 16:08

With Covid-19 restrictions, my entomological fieldwork was restricted to a few days mostly in June when the restrictions were eased. Overall a very frustrating year so far - UK experienced the longest, warmest spring in living memory but C-19 restrictions prevented me getting out into the government forest areas I have been studying, even ( Read more... )

I read a shocking article on a poisonous and potentially deadly caterpillar, that was introduced with some oak trees from the Netherlands, I hope you don’t have any of such sort in your forest. What would you do if you found one? Is it possible to get rid of them completely?
And yes, it is really hard to understand why the supers and public transportation in Moscow worked all right and we couldn’t go to the nearby park with a two year old baby (

I heard about this some time ago, maybe even last year. I think the caterpillar hairs caused a problem rather like sting from nettle plant. I've heard nothing more about it so assume it was a "slow news day" when deadly caterpillar invasion was announced.

Strange why people cannot use parks, we all need to get out into the sun and let children play. We are lucky living in rural area, but also have our own garden.

Keep safe !

You too stay safe and please post more news from your forest and garden!

Very nice. Glad you're back. Your posts are ever so interesting and educational.
I've been to the UK a few times and like its countryside a lot, much more so than London. The nature and places away from tourist crowds are the best.

Yes, I apologise for not posting anything for a long time. Covid-19 restrictions are only partly to blame.
I also dislike London, too big, too expensive and too many people with bad attitude.
Keep safe.

Some trees “remember” the plague, Queen Elizabeth and the Luddite uprising! This is impressive!

How do you manage to find 2mm long beetles?
