Religion as Twister

The Theist's Guide to Converting Atheists

God and Disasters

Look for (or don't, I don't care) a self-centered, long time in coming mega-post in the next couple of days. Unless it gets delayed by burnout again. Cheers.

Allow me to put forth this site as well. His FAQ's on this page are admirably concise, and his writing includes some very clever satire.

Also, I highly recommend Richard Dawkin's new book, The God Delusion. Very well laid out, if occasionally a bit repetitive.

On God and disasters- in my experience, God tends to let things go as they are. Humans have been given free will, and consistent medium is required to have choice. The same stick that allows you to pull someone up also lets you beat them- if one were to make the stick fail every time you attempted to hurt a person, where is the freedom to execute your will? And so our environment is largely unaltered, in both flood and murder.

The exception is usually those under God. We'll say Christians for the sake of ease. Christians... aren't quite part of the natural order. Aside from the larger theological implications, we've made Christ our Lord, and hence God our master. With this comes a rather... terrific state. On one hand, He looks out for His own. On the other, we have given ourselves to him, and are his to do with as he pleases. We're pawns. The weakest pieces on the board with the potential to become the strongest. Whether or not we die no longer matters because our lives, as long as we are his, are not our own ( ... )

Oh, joy. Yet another "educated" writer who attempts to tie intelligent design to the young earth concept. Also known as "how to tell that the guy criticizing design has never bothered to look into it." Gets a bit old, after a while.
