A Lovely Discourse on Handwork

Sharon Astyk has a blog about homesteading and she recently wrote a lovely piece about the virtues of handwork. In particular I love the following which she learned from her grandmother:

I love this. There is, among the academic and business cultures, a sort of quaint disdain for crafting and handiwork which galls me to no end. It is a human need to build, create, mold, affect, and beautify. Without these actions we devolve into droning babbling automotons clicking endlessly away at our keyboards in response to friends' blogs.
