Steve went to the doctor for his routine physical on Friday. He may have prostate cancer. May not, but it will take a few weeks to find out via a biopsy. Second, while I certainly hope that he doesn't have prostate cancer, it really depends upon the stage. My father was diagnosed 5 1/2 years ago with early stage cancer. He underwent treatment, and has been in remission for most of that time. If it is cancer, research various treatment options, and if you want, I can tell you about the pros and cons of my father's treatment (because some of the side effects of his meds were serious).
Third, your shoulder could be something which is treatable and doesn't necessarily mean that you must stop knitting. See your doctor - he or she may send you to an orthopedist, depending upon the problem. Heck, even after 18 years of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I can STILL hand sew, embroider, paint, do calligraphy and illumination, type, make lace, etc. I just had to adjust how I do things :-)
And did I mention - *hugs*? :-)
