We'll see how far I can get on this, but that's where I'm going. Their resistance: that's their carrot, to get me to pay the bill. Withholding it is the stick, aside from liens and what not.
That's central to the whole ordeal. This problem was caused by my Financial Aid Office just totally f*cking up my billing, not catching it until now, and billing me for their error. Shocking, really, on lots of levels. So they sent me more money than they are allowed under Fed Regs.
I find it an improvement that someone here apologized to me, instead of acting like it was my mistake. I didn't catch their mistakes each disbursement--beyond noticing the amount was higher and asking Financial Aid if the amount was right.
Wow, that blows. I'm a little confused, though? It sounds like you or your lender was over-billed by $6k/semester, but then that was refunded... so how does that make you owe more?
It sounds like the sort of thing that might get straightened out in a mutually agreeable way... but if not, I imagine your ljfriends could spot you some...
My net debt has not increased--it's actually become less by 4k. However, 7.6k or so has become presently due and owing.
While my lender was over-billed, and the money was returned, it was USD who returned the money. Now, they want to rip my tits off.
There's a chance they'll decrease the amount owed by another 1.3k or so, depending on some cost allocation... the goal here is to increase my current cost of living budget. That way, the "excess" loan amount that's now due and owing can go back to it's Cthulu-like, Eldrich slumber: when it wakes up, that's it and the end of the world. But now, I'll just go slightly mad from my fever dreams spawned by its undead torpor.
