Barnes and Noble is now going to let people publish their own eBooks and sell them over B&N.com and through the NOOK eReader. I find this absolutely amazing.
Depends on the back end of the system, what the royalties are, what the publisher's cut is...but for many authors, this will be the easiest way to your get their work into the hands of the public. And that's very good.
Think about it. B&N eBooks can be read on the NOOK, on the iPhone, a Blackberry, a Mac, a PC, soon the iPad and later even Android phones. Plus, they're ePub files, so they would work on any OTHER eReaders that use that format. Suddenly your book is possibly in the hands of hundreds of thousands of people!
Another cool item I saw mentioned was that you'll be able to go into any B&N brick-and-mortar and browse all the ebook catalog on your reader as long as you are in store. Just like you'd be able to do for a regular book! :)
Pretty much. If you have a NOOK, you can go into a B&N and get on the wifi. Then, for an hour a day (yes, only an hour) you can read any book for free.

The real question is if there will be an Apple-like screening process to make sure no copyrights are infringed and such.
