'Sceleri'? The hell? Is that a verb form?

Oooh, am intrigued. Could it be an alternate (i.e., late) dative noun form? I haven't done any Latin in almost 2 years. *sniffles* It was my true love. *g*

Whatever it is, it's from Lucan.

Bella per Emathios plus quam ciuilia campos
iusque datum sceleri canimus

Just starting, I got:

The wars across the Emathian fields
More than civil (things)
And the given law (to be poluted? wicked dogs? poluted more than civil things?)

And then I gave up, because it was distracting me from my original purpose: English grammar.

Latin is ridiculously addictive, isn't it? I had absolutely no notion of how much I would miss it after school. I kept a hand in by begging offering to translate spells into Latin for people's fics. In fact, I can thank Latin withdrawal for being an impetus to get involved in the HP fandom in the first place. :}

Hmm. I'm not getting much further than you. I came up with a second line that doesn't make much sense:

and from wickedness, we are celebrating the given laws.

But I think I misused sceleri. And you're right. SOOO addictive. There's something very satisfying about it, the thrill of the hunt.
