bitchitude goes both ways

Proof that my friend Nicol is more sadistic (and, by the way, more masochistic) than I am:

This is the last song on her Remus/Sirius two disc set:

So Damn Happy
by Loudon Wainwright III

The sad thing is I'm so damn happy
Who'd blame her if she were to slap me
The sun should not shine when there's rain
I should be in a lot more pain
At least I should feel slightly crappy
But the sad thing is I'm so damn happy

And the worst thing is it's so much better
That admission would upset her
But it's true and it's beyond belief
What I feel is sheer relief
I may regret the day I met her
And the worst thing is it's so much better

It's comic that it's all so tragic
It's that hum-drum novel old black magic
Let's have a laugh after we cry
Let's hope we live before we die
The silly clown's red nose is runny
And it's tragic that it's all so funny

It's crucial that it doesn't matter
Vows of love are idle chatter
To feel this good has to be bad
I'm so damn happy that it's sad
Dear listener would you like to slap me
And the sad thing is I'm so damn happy
Yes the sad thing is I'm so damn happy

And the thing that weirds me out about Lebanon is that it's so positive, which is weird in itself, and the look of everything... It could be taking place in California. The lack of angry faces, blood, and head scarves... The association of freedom and nonviolence with lighter skin and Western-style clothing... It's affecting me, and that bothers me.

Not that it takes two seconds to remember the hypocrisy of my own country.

And I continue to be completely caught up in GunsGermsSteel. It makes so much sense. I love it. And I know way more about the domestication of plants than I did two hours ago.
