After all I've witnessed I find myself more curious than a child in a room full of electrical outlets. Every question more shocking than the last, the the prospect of ever learning growing dimmer and dimmer ( Read more... )

We may never be able to free ourselves of our inner beast, but if we truly wish to, and dedicate ourselves to doing so, we can overcome our base natures. At least, that's been my experience, and it's what I've come to believe.

and I have to keep believing it

Ha...! I find myself believing the same thing. And yet the very nature of belief is to invest in something that might not be possible. Perhaps we're better off knowing.

I take it she'll be fine.

Perhaps, but unfortunately we can never really tell if we'll slip up until after we are dead. Still, I've seen people overcome instincts that are burned into their very blood, and found ways to avoid becoming killers like their kin. The human spirit is an amazing thing, as long as people want to be better, and take necessary precautions.

She may have some scarring, and she should take it easy for a few days, but other than that she should be fine. Sounds like she was lucky you were there.

How's your arm?

Hmm. She was lucky, all right.

It's deep, but it's not too big and it already stopped bleeding. It'll just be sore for a while. I suppose I got off lucky though, so there's no complaining.

Forgive the presumption, but I've got a rule about sinking when the tides of fate begin to tug at you.

There isn't a difference, Godot-san. We just are what we are, and darkness is a part of that.

'couse, I'm a psychotic head-case, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

As it only takes a single drop of milk to destroy the pure black magic in a cup of coffee, it only takes a little too much darkness to saturate all that is a man and erase him. There is darkness within each of us; only the weak are overtaken by it.

Wonder what that makes me, then. Pretty weak, I guess

You defiantly got a way with words, Godot-san. Don't know a lot of people back home who do.

People tend to sink deeper and faster when they are without others to support them and catch them from falling that far.

That is my belief at any rate...who knows how true it is...but it has been proved that humans are social creatures by nature...no matter how much we may deny it.

Well, sometimes someone just needs to break through it and pull you out.

Indeed. Even if that someone is the one who stares back from the mirror every morning.

Maybe.

Or someone that looks up at you.
