He was being put on the spot. Absently staring at the manager of Schatz Kiste as distracting maid's ran around the back while various cooks prepped food and drinks for those who came into the cafe.

"Did you get all of that?"

Kida nodded, "Yes, Takeguchi-san."

"Good! Your on table six, here's your tray." He accepted it quickly and made his way out, studying all the cute designs and figures. Ahhh, this was heaven~! He had finally died and gone to heaven! It wasn't until he was actually at table six that he noticed the entire cafe had gone quiet, whisperings to his left and right, even the table before him had gone quiet and for a moment he wondered if he had done something wrong.

"She's wearing yellow..." He heard one customer whisper to another.
"Cat ears?"
"Is Schatz Kiste changing their look?"
Quickly the other waitresses combatted back, whispering back responses to their own clients who seemed to take it to heart, laughing and nodding.
"I see!"
"So that's it!"

He looked at the table of one before him, "Ah--sorry for the wait, Master! What may I get for you today?" Bowing apologetically as the air around the cafe seemed once again at ease.

"Cherry-chan isn't in today?"

"Unfortunately Cherry-sempai has come down with a cold so she may not be in for awhile. I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience, Master!" He felt rusty with his keigo but the man seemed to be buying it regardless.

"That's disappointing. Please give her my regards. I hope she gets well soon."

"Of course! I would be happy to."

"And your name is?"

What was the one they had decided on again...?

---

"You'll be filling in for one of the employees who goes by the name of 'Cherry'," Izaya stated, tossing a paper down on his desk, complete with photo, personality, real name, measurements, age, date of birth and more information then one might possible need on a person, "Most maid's go under an alias while working there. You won't be an exception to this."

"...So what will my name be, Master?"

"Hmm," Izaya leaned back in his chair thoughtfully, "Have you ever seen 'Breakfast on Pluto'?"

Kida shook his head, Izaya continued, "It's an English film. Released on January thirteenth in two-thousand six. The synopsis of the movie is unimportant but there's a name related to it that I think would work for you."

Kida blinked.

"Kitten."

"Kitten?"

"It's English for Cat."

---

"Kitten," he said with a smile, holding the tray against his chest, "So may I get you something to drink, Master? Perhaps something to eat as well?"

"Certainly. I'll take a blend of Camomile and Fennel tea, please as well as pound cake, please."

"I will have it ready for you in a moment, Master. Please excuse me." He bowed again before making his way off to the back room. It was growing more and more apparent to him. He had never been in Schatz Kiste, he only knew that it was a German 'based' maid cafe. What he was learning was how traditional in fashion it was. Black and white maid costumes were common, but that's all this cafe was. Despite being dressed like this and being fashioned to disguise his gender, he stood out.

"A blend of camomile and fennel please. Cake too," he gave the orders to the cooks in the back who didn't seem to bat an eye. He turned around and returned to the table he was serving, bowing to the customer, "They'll have it ready for you shortly, Master. I am sorry for the wait."

"Ah, it's no problem... Kitten-chan, right?"

Kida nodded.

"Are you from another branch?"

He thought about that before shaking his head, "No, I was requested to fill in for Cherry-sempai." He straightened out his uniform before leaning forward slightly, "They didn't have a coded uniform in my size, but this outfit suits my name a little better. Don't you think, Master?"

"Yes, it's very cute."

"Thank you very much," he pinched on a smile. It was kind of humiliating having to flirt with male customers like this. They bought into it so easily.

"My name is Nakijima Hideo, by the way," the customer added on, Kida's focus changed.

"Nakijima-sama," he curtseyed, "I will return with your food and drink in just a moment. Please excuse me."

Nakijima nodded and Kida was off again. He had to make sure this impression was a lasting one--which it most certainly would be given he stood out immensely and it was only his first day. He brought the order back on a platter, setting it down as quietly as he could manage. Taking the tea cup and setting it down in front of Hideo. Short brown hair. Brown eyes. Glasses. All around a pretty average looking guy.

"Nakijima-sama, do you take anything with your tea?"

"Yes, two teaspoons of sugar please."

"Then I will gladly put some in for you!" this kind of conversation, Kida fought off a depressed sigh. He'd be so much more willing if he was serving a cute girl. "One... Two!" He stirred the sugar into the warm liquid and placed the cake down next to it with a fork and knife. Kida stood back and waited, holding the platter over the lower portion of his dress.

"Could you cool the tea for me, Kitten-chan?"

"Ah--Yes, certainly, Master." This is so gay. Kida leaned over and blew on the cup of tea that Hideo held up for him. He blew on it softly, four times before Hideo assured him that should be enough. Kida stepped back.

"How is it?" Getting his voice as high as it was, was surprisingly easy. He wondered if keeping it there for a whole day would damage it.

"Delicious," Hideo replied with a smile, and went about enjoying his meal while Kida waited silently by his side, letting his mind wander for some time before he was given another request.

"Kitten-chan, may you get me one of the books from that far wall?"

"Certainly, Nakijima-sama," he responded, bowing and excusing himself once more before he picked a book at random and returned with it. It was an interesting title, which might have been why it stood out first to the blond in the maid outfit, "Here you are, Master."

"Thank you Kitten-chan," Hideo accepted it with both hands and began flipping through it while Kida stood there on the borderline of zoning out. He wondered what Saki was doing right now. She could be cleaning, or shopping... Maybe talking to Izaya over the phone. He frowned at the thought of that. Hideo's voice broke through his thoughts.

"Hungry, Hungry Hippo," the customer murmured.

"Huh?" Then it dawned on Kida, "Are you looking for a game to place, Master?"

Hideo nodded, "Hungry hungry hippo is a fun game, wouldn't you agree, Kitten-chan?"

"Yes!" He replied maybe to fast, pausing a moment before asking further, "Would you like me to retrieve it for you, Master?"

There was another nod, "Please excuse me." He bowed and trailed his way to the back. "Where do we keep the hungry hungry hippos?"

One of the other girls laughed and fetched the game for him, "All board games are in this cupboard here. Nakijima-sama requested it, I'm guessing?"

Kida nodded, taking the game in both hands, "There's an added charge for things like this right? Do I charge him now or later?"

"Best to ask him for it now. You have a job to do too, right?"

He waved to the helpful colleague, "You bet! Thanks!"

He made his way back to Nakijima, holding the game over top of the platter which he held in his arms. "Nakijima-sama, that will be 300 yen."

"Of course," dug into his wallet, pulling out 500 yen.

"I'll get you your change." A hand was raised to halt Kida from doing so.

"It's alright, you can just keep the change."

That was... He was still flirting, wasn't he? "T-thank you very much, Master." Kida bowed. He'd make sure to get the change for that later, tucking it into one of the pockets on his apron for now. He began setting up the game on the table, taking the empty plate, "Would you like a refill of your tea, Nakijima-sama?"

"No, it's alright for now. You can put that away later as well," Hideo gestured to plate, Kida set it back down, "Please sit."

"Yes, Master," Kida replied, taking a seat opposite of the other man, making sure not to sit indecently or improperly before the other. Initiative taken to put the game together, Hideo explained the rules for Kida as he did so, then they began. Kida debated between being an aggressor or the shy type who batted at the small tab timidly as the customer gobbled the pieces up. Surely that was the way most people played it here. You were trying to play it to the customer's comfort but Kida wasn't the type to play it safe a lot of the time anyways. He rapidly pushed down so his hippo could gobble up all the pieces, causing him to win. Kida tossed both his hands up into the air, "I did it!!"

The cafe was looking at him. He brought his arms back down, bowing his head, embarrassed. He chanced getting fired for that, he was sure. " Please forgive my rudeness, Master."

"You're forgiven, Kitten-chan," Nakijima chuckled, "May I pay for another round?"

"O-of course, Master!"

Hideo smiled and Kida reset the game for a second round, another 500 yen coin was put down on the table. This time attempting the meeker approach. Hideo won.

"Congratulations, Master!"

"Thank you, Kitten-chan."
